THE GUARDIAN

From ZBrush viewport to physical reality: Sculpt workflow on my latest Mecha.

Here is a raw look at my latest “Guardian” robot concept, fully modeled in ZBrush. This high-res model was designed specifically to meet the technical challenges of large-scale resin 3D printing.

On this type of project, the design cannot just look good; it must be functional right from the sculpting phase:

Volume management: Balancing masses to ensure stability on the rocky base.

Hard-surface detailing: Sharp structural lines and mechanical details pronounced enough to survive the slicing and physical post-processing stages.

Splitting anticipation: Integrating joints and keys at the articulation points to facilitate printing and final assembly without loss of detail.

Next step: Lychee Slicer for orientation, support placement, and hollowing optimization.

What are your biggest logistical challenges when transitioning a high-res digital model into a physical print?

This is an incredible piece, thank you for sharing so much. Did you mostly use ZModeler or did you do some hard surface sculpting techniques as well.

Thank you Paul! well, mainly was done with Zmodeler and converted into dynamesh to push level of details without polygon constraints.

Awesome!! Great to hear from you. It’s been awhile. Hope all is well with you and the family.
