The story behind the concept goes like… sometimes we look at the sky full of stars, and we wonder if we are alone? maybe we want to know how big or how small we are, what is behind us and what is beyond us… but we very rarely have the patience to hear what the starry night want tell us about that we have to grow up, get ready for meeting the future…

My idea was to make a creature which can resemble the “father” archetype. One, who can calmly lead us into unknown, can push us further beyond our limits. He gently carries earth with our young civilization inside. I also wanted him to be something more than a creature, I wanted him to be a state of mind. The connection we make with space when we look at the starry night. This is why his skin is in the color of night sky with stars. You can see more stars in shadowed places.
Head of the creature was loosely based on Osiris’ head with a crown. Osiris is an Egyptian god of living and dead. God of life and death, transition, reborn, resurrection. It resembles civilization cycles, which produces more and more sophisticated societies. To make the creature more “alien-ish”, I gave his head a squid shape. This shape is similar to the Osiris crown shape. Squid theme connects with the creature idea quite well, not only with shape, but also the skin that can emit light.
The main character and the baby were sculpted using zbrush, all textures and rendering were made in blender. I’ve used some NASA photos and textures from solarsystemscope.com for planets.
This is my second attempt to zbrush. I know the creature is not perfect, so if You have any comments or critique, please don’t hesitate to share.
