Wow that is so cool!!! Amazing work, wish I could have seen it in real life.

Cheers, M

I have a question. Do you have any video shot of that event? Creeepy cool!

I want to do stuff just like that when I grow up…

Congrats on meeting deadline with style.

This thread is AWESOME!
Thanks LLLGuapo and johncox85 for sharing your work!
Keep posting more!! I like!!

Hi everyone,

The commercial that we made the giant girl doll for has finally gone on air and so I can show the ‘making of’ footage now.

There are two files you can download. The first is the making of which is 20Mb and the second is the commercial which is 26Mb.

Hope you like it.

John

love the thread…

Has anyone found a way to get a point cloud into zbrush?
My current software worklows suck for overhangs… even with tones of breaklines etc.

I was looking into the riprap projectect for cnc, has anyone tried it?

Wow - cheers to all for this thread- great to see your processes.
I wish I had been on Queen street for the shoot - I would have loved to have seen the mechanical doll.
Cheers

Jake

Here are some shop pics of a couple projects we completed for artist Scott Musgrove. The pieces were base-meshed in Silo, detailed and posed in ZBrush. Carved in EPS foam, assembled, clayed-up and sculpted by Scott and out to lost-wax process for casting. Fun project, and super effective pipeline for large-scale sculpture.

Wow, wow, wow!! My compliments, those are such a fantastic sculptures! Thanks for sharing all the pictures.

Very inspiring work.
it is amazing how versatile Zbrush can be as a tool in all sorts of practical applications.
excellent, thanks for posting!

Cool. And there are actually people who pay for these sculptures?
I could see them in a children’s sculpture garden.

Really glad I have stumbled onto this thread - great to see people using zbrush and CNC machining( +the traditional techniques), creating public art and VFX - thank you for sharing your processes.

Much appreciated

Jake

Hi all,

Here are the photos of the construction process for a prehistoric crocodile/alligator called Deinosuchus. They grew to about 12 metres ( 45ft) long. We were given 7 weeks to research, sculpt, mould and cast a full size copy but as there wasn’t enough time to make the whole creature we made the front 4 metres and the last 3 metres and posed the croc so the middle 5 metres (15ft) is under the water. We also had to make a juvenile deinosuchus and a juvenile pteranodon to complete the scene.

I started with a scan of a croc maquette we already had and then got to work on it with zbrush. By the time I was finished twisting, turning and resizing the original I essentially had to create all of the detail and texture again.

Once the zbrush file was completed we began to cut the full sized creature out of EPS on our 5 axis milling machine. Because the finished piece was going to be near live animals inside a building in Sydney there were very strict fire regulations that we had to address which meant that the final product had to be made from a fire retardant material. We settled on gelcoat, fibreglass and paint systems that satisfied all the fire regulations, we even had to supply 10 finished panels to be fire tested and burned. The results were very positive which was just as well as this process took 5 weeks and we delivered the finished croc 4 days after we had the results. There was no way we could wait to get the test results first so we had to hope that the materials chosen would pass the test!!

I will be creating a lot more figurative pieces wholly with zbrush this year and will post the results.

If anyone has questions just ask…

I hope 2010 is good to all of us,

John

You guys clearly have the best jobs in the WORLD!..evvvveeerr!

I would love to go into a studio like that every morning! Great work and lots of dedication. Well done!

That is some seriously awesome work!! Can’t wait to see more work posted on this thread!

Wow…this is seriously awesome! The croc is magnificent!

Great stuff! Looks like a very exciting, and creative job to work at. Can we see images of the croc with the rest of the body! I think I see it at a more finished stage in the background of the photo with the flying reptile.
