THE BUGMAN COMETH (ZBR file included for lighting and materials)

Nice Lonnie!
I love the presentation as much as the modelling, Bud!

:sunglasses: :+1: :+1: :+1: :sunglasses:

It is interesting to see the use of the Zspheres. It has obviously helped those with good modeling skills, and offers hope for those who wish to improve that part of their ZBrush skills.
Very impressive Mr.M7

This is great Mentat. May I ask a question?

I’ve seen a few images posted using ZBrush 1.5, that have this same look to it. How exactly do you do this? I’m no exactly sure what this ‘effect’ is, so it’s kind of hard to phrase my question.

Another common effect I’ve seen is the model’s shadows are the only indication of a ground, im gathering this is global illumination kicking in. Any ideas as to how to achieve this effect?

MJ

wow, this is kind of intricate and interesting, I sort of looked at it from a few angles for awhile. Pretty Cool…

MJ… here is a zbrush file Soft Shadow Example.zip that you can unzip then play with. Pay particular attention to the LIGHTING/SHADOW settings as well as the MATERIAL/DIFFUSION CURVE settings. These are the key. The object is standing on a 3d plane that has been rotated 80 degrees so that a shadow can be cast on it. Play around with it.

Edit: After having seen Auricks post about the angle setting for the plane on another thread note that 80 degrees is just an arbitrary number and it is coincidence we chose the same values. I generally use a setting between 65 and 85 degrees depending on the size of the model.

Oh wow! Thank you so much Mentat. This will be very helpfull. I asked for help, however I never expected this! Thanks

MJ

Wauuu Mentat!!! I like more this !!! I see forward for the textured image!!! Nice!! :+1:

Hey Mentat!!
I have download the file, but it is for the zBrush 1.5!! Sigh Sigh!!
But is possible this tecnique on 1.23B ???
Tnx for answer!!!

Unfortunately Mr. B the closest to matching this techique in 1.23b is through the fog technique I illustrated with my Killer Grahl and Ah’hm-brosiim pictures. You will need 1.51 to get the full effect shown in the Bugman picture.

too cool, thanks for the help!

i have yet to give the .zbr a look, but thanks in advance! looks awesome and definitely is an excellento way to share settings  + :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks for the sample and the opportunity to play; I’m sure it will prove instructive and very helpful. :+1: :+1:

I had a problem with the download last night, however. In case anyone else experiences the same difficulty: the zip file appears to have been set up differently from most on the Forum. I use GetRight for downloading these files; unusually, on this occasion it downloaded as an empty file. If you use GetRight or a similar download manager, you will need to temporarily disable it either by unloading it or (at least in the case of GetRight) holding down the Shift key when clicking the link.

Very innovative way to share inspiration, and information, Lonnie!!
:+1: :sunglasses: :+1: to both the concept, and the ideas…
