The Black Pearl

Hey,
I used alpha 58 and standard brush because his hair was so tangled. Then I was careful with my strokes. Then I went back in with no alpha to clean up bad areas, and I kept looking at photos of his hair.

Hi espectacular sculptures, any chance you make a tutorial is about the process of preparing the mesh to 3d printing ???[color=Black]

:frowning:please…we would all be very grateful

Hi Brandon, I’m blown away by your last sculpts, amazing job !

I realize that it’s too late for Z4, but I agree with Brandon wholeheartedly!!! The critical need for folders can be made clear if you consider this example: I’m sculpting a knight in armor. He’s holding a sword in front of his chest. His arm is made up of 20 subtools for all the plates of armor, mail, flesh, leather, etc. When I go to work on the chest (obscured by the arm) I must turn off all twenty subtools for the arm, then turn them back on again, then back off, eating up literally HOURS a week. We need the ability to put all the arm pieces in a folder so we can turn them on and off with a single click. To follow up Brandon’s point, we can’t simply merge subtools without losing flexibility. Every day the client or art director comes to us and says “can you move the arm?” “Can you widen the gaps between the armor plates?” “We love it. We want to make it at half scale, too. Can you exaggerate all the details so they will pop at a smaller size?” Merging subtools makes all this much more difficult, if not impossible. Not to mention that, part of the advantage of sculpting digitally is the ability to accumulate a library of parts over the years. Merging seriously messes up a parts reusability.

Just my two cents.

Will

I totally agree with the above post. I shutter when I think about the hours I have spent clicking that little eye icon … on … off … on…off … change subtool … on … off… one of the key features Zbrush is missing is a folder system.

Here are a few advantages of a folder system:

*easily toggle multiple tools’ visibility at once

*easily export mutiple tools via folder

*organization. it is currently extremely difficult to find subtools when there are 50+ in a file, or you have to work on a co-worker’s file.

*import subtools to folders instead of to the bottom of the subtool stack

*edit multiple tools at once (moving an arm composed of mutiple tools)

The list literally goes on …

ZBrush is an amazing application but it really does need folder support if it is going to keep on the cutting edge.

I have to second (or third?) this. I’ve always thought that folders would be an obvious addition to ZBrush. For the exact reasons Brandon and Will mentioned. It’s a hassle when you have a file with over 75 subtools and you have to search through to hide and unhide certain things. Sure you can hide and unhide all but sometimes you just need to hide the 10 arm subtools or unhide the shin armor.

weird. I haven’t seen Avatar, so I didn’t notice that, but looking at images from the movie, that’s how it shows (even if it wouldn’t really work well to shoot that way). Oh well. sorry for the correction then. lol

It is really awesome work. I’ve been enjoying watching this thread, and it must be pretty cool to have your work displayed as statues like that.

:+1: Thanks for sharing! :+1:

i can’t believe i haven’t seen this thread till now. so much great work, i’ll definitely be paying attention to it in future. can’t wait to see more

Brandon,
I know I told you this yesterday but these are the best figures I’ve seen done in this medium and business…EVER.
I’m reading A LOT of stuff on facebook where people are trying to second guess how you did them (and they are waaaaaaay off ) and it looks like you are definitely causing them to miss a few good nights sleep worrying how to catch up:D

Congratulations, again bro.

What can I say, DUDE you are the man. Truly inspiring art, please continue to kick more ass.

 That’s what happens when you raise the bar that high.

Just don’t forget ALL the praises from awesome artists in that particular conversation.

ps - Why didn’t you and Will get a top row yet is beyond logic.

Just amazing work, page after page! Keep on inspiring man!
:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

I think this crazy mad scientist digital sculpting genius knows how much praise he is generating by these beautiful little ladies…i bet some people he knows are even reaching out to tell him personally.

but sorry if i gave the wrong impression…telling him he was leaving everyone scratching their heads as to how this amazing work was done was my clumsy way of giving him some added and well deserved props…good thing i am a sculptor cause as a journalist I’d obviously be a stinker

Brandon Lawless is the man:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

I think that we all "ZBrushers have to step it up to the challenge. That is what happens when somebody shakes the system the way Brandon did. By the way, this is not the first time he’s done it. Brandon breaths and feeds on ZBrush 24/7. I have never met anyone more committed to his craft than this Digital Genius.
I agreed with you Joe, what’s funny about it, that “particular conversation” is gone.
Trying to find excuses to explain his amazing work is just silly. IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW YOU GOT THERE, WHAT MATTERS IS THE FINAL RESULT. Clients couldn’t give a rat a*s about how you create your sculptures.
As the youth always said “We all have been own!!”

Let's grab our tablets and styluses and work our hearts out. I can't wait to see the quality of the work that is going to be inspired by Brandon's achievement.

I just hope that when the time comes to catch up with him(If ever!) He hasn’t break the grounds again.

Fabricio, maybe the reason is because he is already top row with this same tread.

By the way, I am fourth in agreement with "The folders" issue. Once you passed the 50 subtool count, it's just madness!!!

Keep them coming Brandon!!!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

I was one of the other artists who posted praise in that aforementioned Facebook thread, and I’ll say it again- INCREDIBLE work, Brandon. And Will.
Being new to this whole thing and suitably jazzed like a kid in a candy store, it’s an absolute shot in the arm to see the quality of work being done by you guys and many others. Can’t wait to see what you all do next.
Happy sculpting,

Richard Force

first…i love your models…they are absolute great…:+1:

second …the movie comes out - 25 march 2011

trailer :

Why isn’t it top row already? :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

i wonder too…no doubt outstanding work!

,but maybe because he doesnt share any of his workflow…go and watch every toprow piece …they all are sharing some info or they show some “making of” stuff … im not sure, so maybe i´m complete wrong - just asking…

Hello,
Yes I think you’re right. I contribute what I can when I can.
Thanks for all the positive comments on my statues. I worked really hard and its great to know they’re well received.

-Brandon

Unbelievable Quality! Who cares about Top Row, these ladies are off the chart  I’d love to get one of those statuettes.
