First of all the bat motorcycle and batmobile are fantastic and very inspiring. they are great examples of hard surface modeling possible within Zbrush. Thanks for making the effort to explain some of your techniques for creating low poly objects with retopology.
I have a few questions:
- Did you just create the front polygons as posted in your image ( 07 ) of the seat of the bike or all the polygons ( back and side ). I recreated what you made but i had to make 8 polygons. I guess your answer will be yes, or perhaps the polygon in the front can somehow be mirrored offset and welded by some method thereby creating the sides. also the front face had to be split for it to preview with adaptive skin ( zbrush wonât preview polygons ( adaptive skin ) with six vertices )

- âŠusing the âClipRectâ brush get it into the shape you want (pic09), then click on the âGeometryâ pallete and click âMirror And Weldâ (pic10)⊠I wonder how you shaped the objects around the principal seat shape. Clip curve wonât work on low poly objects ( sometimes it did but other times nothing happened ). clip rectangle didnât seem the ideal tool for reshaping objects around the seat, given that their sides arenât at right angles. so what clipping method did u use to make the surrounding objects as in 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

I donât think you have enough polygons for the clip brush to âcutâ the way you want it to. The clip brushes donât move points, instead, they cut away the excess points. Since you only have 8 polyâs there simply is not enough data for the clip brush to cut anything.

@Manderero. if i am not mistaken clip brushes donât remove any geometry ( mentioned in the documentation) , they simply squash the mesh on a plane which you set using the clipping brushes. i know this is too low poly for even squashing, but the way clip brushes work, the three vertices to the left of the dark clip plane should be pulled in to line up with the plane drawn by the clip curve brush( works sometimes , see pic ) But then borden used some other technique, mentioning the clip rectangle which i am unclear about.
