Texturing with photos technique question

I recently went back and found the video with Ryan Kingslien that showed you how to use photos to texture your model in Zbrush 2 ( http://www.pixolator.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=33715&highlight=antropus+texturing ) . Anyway, I thought I would try the technique but there is a speed bump which I would like to get over.
Anyway, once you are in projection master and you have your image plane with photo applied, you use the move function to deform the plane so it fits the model. The plane is a native one to Zbrush so any move deformations are limited. Once you make a mistake, you can’t ‘smooth’ out the image plane and redo any deformations.
So, I tried converting the image plane into a polymesh object, which is great and it gives me the control I need. HOWEVER, since it gets converted, I lose the transparency that I get from when I was deforming the native image plane. Basically, I can’t see what I’m doing when I’m trying to deform the plane so it fits the model.

So, the question is: How do I get that same transparency working with an ordinary polymesh image plane?

Oh, I do realise that I could use Zapplink and use Liquify to deform my photo to fit my model but I hate liquify. I feel that deforming a polymesh give me way more control and is faster than Liquify.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks.
