it is not possible to work with texture maps in Zbrush, only display them You can create polypaint and convert it to texture paint but obviously this has workflow limitations.
You can use Projection Master to paint directly on texture maps in ZBrush but this method has some drawbacks. If you want to stay in ZBrush then the best way is to use polypaint. You’ll need to subdivide your model so that there are enough points to hold the detail before painting your model. You can then convert the polypaint to a texture map which can be used with the original low res version of your model.
Alternatively you can use GoZ to send the model to Photoshop and paint the texture there.
I was not aware of projection master for textures. What are the limitations? I have tried spotlight with projection master RGB and it doesn’t seem to work. Am I doing anything wrong or this is one of the limitations? If so it makes it very limited for any texturing.
Spotlight doesn’t work with Projection Master - that’s one of the limitations. If you want to apply photos then the Image Plane plugin will set up an image correctly if Projection Master is in use. But Projection Master works in 2.5D mode which means it can be difficult to get good seams.
