critics (bad and good) are welcome
Looking good…off the top of my head…I would
look a little more closely to the eyes…
I think he has a lot wider(vertically)/hanging eyelids…rotate
the eyes a little upwards maybe…along x-axis…
so he looks more threatening…
maybe less chin too…
definately pay more attention to the shape of the ear…
cheers
i know, i know, ears are not finished yet. i will consider all, thanks a lot
ears. skin and a little asymmetry
Great head!!!small_orange_diamond

Its definatley very good. In your second update I see that you’re working on the shape of the head, which I still think is in general too bulky.
I wonder why you have that crease running up the side of his forehead from one of his eyebrows. It seemed that you had one on each side in the previous picture. I usually put a ridge there rather than a crease.
I think you are also making a couple of other mistakes that I’ve noticed myself making in my zbrush models. The chin is further below his lower lip than it is on most people. Usually there is almost no space between the bottom of the lip and the top of the bulge on the chin and the bottom of the lower lip.
I think that the end of his nose also sags a bit too much. This is something that happens a lot to my models when I start with a Zsphere mesh for the head, the last segment just seems to lend itself to a hanging tip of the nose.
The ears are a bit too high. Try to imagine the character wearing glasses when you place the ears.
I also think that there is a bit of a tendency for a lot of people to make the back corner of the jaw lower and more square than it usually is. I think it would add to the believability of the character if you raised the back corner of the jaw, so that it goes up at an angle from the chin to the neck.
One last criticism I’ll mention, though I don’t see it nearly as pronounced in the second picture, is that the outside corners of the eyebrows seem to droop a little too much.
In spite of all these suggestions the overall impression is of a very nice piece of work. I’m impressed by the detailing and I like the way you have the wrinkles and lumps running down the side of the cheek and near the corner of the mouth.
I would like to know how you approached the texture mapping and what kind of references you referred to. I wonder if you would also say a few words about your technique for creating the texture maps.
lemmonado: thank you
wildsketch: first of all, i´ve been trying to get the first H. L.(1991), and all my graphic references, except some screen captures from the movie, are from imdb.com and those pictures are rather current and well, sir anthony is an aged man and his face has changed a little since The Silence of the Lambs. So, i´ve been fighting with this and lens distortion (and i have not got a good side view of him, i wish i`d have his police file). Maybe that explains about chin and nose, i´ll try to correct them. About the crease over his left eyebrow well, it´s there, look any picture of the guy, maybe not so strong, mine looks like a scar, and corners looks good for me.
Nothing special with my texturing technique, PM, standar brushes (except some alphas i did for pores) and a little Zapplink for eyelids and lips using photos. i´m not satisfied with hair yet.
And i´m no good with zspheres yet, so i did mesh base in Lightwave.
Anyway, most important for me is to know if you can recognize dr. lecterin my model, ´cause i have my doubts, when i look at him i see an hybrid of sir anthony hopkins, frank sinatra and pope ratzinger.
Thanks for your critics and sorry for my poor english. (i´m spanish and took me years to write this, i don´t like web translators)
Great work abraXas!
How do you go about geting the tiny crease’s on forehead and around eyes, in the projection master?
I tried getting that effect in normal edit mode, but even on the smallest setting my brush was creating quite wide relief in the mesh.

I had neglected to read the thread title. When I looked at it the first time I must admit that I didn’t recognise him. Taking a second look the front view of the updated picture does have some resemblence, mostly in the top of the head.
looking good…
…I tried my hand also with Anthony Hopkins…alot of character in his face for sure…I should probably try to finish mine at some point I guess…here is a link to that thread …might help …might not…lol…but here it is just the same. Keep up the work…I like yours.

Thanks Ron, i´ve seen your thread. it´s cool for a 45 min. round, you got closer to the subject than me in a lot of hours, you should not give up that model. Now it´s time for me to give sir anthony a little break, and i´m going after another actor´s head to hang on my wall.
regards
Yep. It’s good. I really like him.
readjusting face and texture
and more readjusting…
the problem is main shapes, they he dosnt look like lecter at all
i don´t think so, he does look like lecter, problem is he doesn´t look like anthony hopkins. anyway, i don´t know what else to do. i better kill this thread
Just Hannibal can kill it!
if you must kill it, at least have it with a side of favre beans and a nice chiante.
sorry…i couldn’t resist
well, to make him look more like anthony hopkins he needs to look more like dr. hannibal lecter i think
anyways, jokes aside i think his head is not round enough
the basic proportions are little off
also, the symmetry of the head needs to be brocken, anthony’s head isnt symmetric at all.
here are some reference images i used:
