texture problems richard

Iam using ZBrush 3.5 along with Maya 8 I am having a problem maintaining the quality of my texture mapping once using Maya 8
My work flow is :
I model tn ZBrush sculptured up to level 8 once completed Ireturned back to level one and then clicked on the Uv Map within the tab bar I then sellected the GUV Tiles and from that I then raised the level back up to level8 at this point I began to Polly paint-
Once Finished the painting I went to the tab texture Map-opened the tab and clicked on New from Polly Paint which then created my texture Map.
At this point I sellected Clone to texture which then sent the texture map to my texture LibraryI then exported the texture out as a Tiff File…
Then with the model I used the Decimation Master Plug In to lower the Polygon countFor information the original Count was 927334 and Points were 9273346.
Settings for the Decimation Plug in I sellected keep Uvs as on the Decimation percentage is twenty and the Pollys are two hundred the points are also two hundred.
i THEN PRESS pRE pROCESS CURRENT AND ONCE CALUCULATED i THEN PRESS decimate current.
from this I have a Lower Polygon model to work on…
I Then export it back to Maya 8 as an OBJ File.

Once the model is in Maya I sellect the model and then return back to the coomon material attributes bar and from here I sellect the colour tab slider bar which brings up another box called create render node and at this point i sellect the file and place my texture map but at this point the texture map is wrongly placed- so I then go into Photoshop CS4 and flip the canvass vertically this places the texture correctly onto the model-
I then return back to Maya the texture is now placed correctly However The PROBLEN IS THAT THE QUALITY IS VERY POOR…

i DONT KNOW HOW TO MAINTAIN THE GOOD QUALITY THAT i FIRST HAD
aNY hELP WOULD BE GREAT…

Without any pictures, we have no idea what you’re seeing. So all we can really do is guess. Off hand, the thing I have to ask is what size did you create the texture at? With ~1 million polygons the right texture size would be 1024x1024. If you created something larger than that, ZBrush is having to upsample the data to fill in the missing info. That could be resulting in lower quality.

How big are you saving the texture map?

256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024, 4096x4096?

Ideally you should save it out at 4k or even 8k.
