Texture Problem

Hi there,

I exported a model as VRML (with the 3D Print Exporter Plugin) to get it printed.
When the guys from the printing company try to open the file there are some seams on the texture:

Now I have no idea how to solve that since I dont see those seams in ZBrush and everything looks fine to me. A friend checked my files in ZBrush and also in 3dsMax and said he cant see something strange.

I pressed the Fix Seam button in the Texture Palette, but they say there is no difference.

The whole model has about 2,5 million Polygons (it has three parts, the biggest has about 2,2 million Polygons and a 4096 UV map, which I think is more than big enough).

Im trying to solve it since weeks and really dont know what`s going on.

I`d be very thankful for every tip.
Thanks in advance!

PS: I`m using ZBrush 4 Windows

That looks like an error in the texture. Did the company inform you if that is a manifold issue?

beta_channel, thanks a lot for the reply, I`m not sure what you mean by manifold issue?
Do you think it can be a texture error although the texture looks normal in ZBrush and also in 3dsMax?

Manifold errors are having a broken seam in your geo. Basically infinitely thin geometry. Holes. Not water tight.

The images you showed are inside your VRML viewer correct? Is there any lighting happening within the viewer? Did you decimate the mesh before exporting it?

I think the geometry is ok since they told me when they look at the model without the texture everything is ok.
This image is an image they sent me so I cant tell you if there is any lighting happening. Regarding the deciamtion - no, this one is not decimated but I already sent them a decimated mesh because I thought this might work, but it didnt make a difference.

if the texture display correctly with nearest filtering turned on in another 3D app they should display fine in any other. What is your seam overpaint setting at when you generate maps? Are they compressing the texture on their end in their viewer?

beta_channel, thanks again for your help  and sorry for the late reply.
To answer your question, no they dont compress the texture but could you explain where I can find the settings (seam overpaint)? Do you mean the UV Map Border in the UV Map palette? If so its 4 (I didn`t change the default settings).

That is what I mean.

If they’re not compressing the texture then the 4pix border should be enough.
I am at a loss.
If you can upload the file I can take a look and see what I can see if you would like.

Otherwise I am at a loss.

beta_channel, thanks again for taking time ro respond.
They told me that the model is colored before they apply the texture and they sent me a picture of it and everything looks normal – no seams.
So that means when I export the file as VRML the file contains already color information and they don`t need a seperate texture?
Right now they are making a test-print to check if it works and I hope it does.

That is awesome.

And yes, your polypaint data can be contained in your file as well (which it sounds to be).
