Texture on Subtools

Hello,

After creating a figure in Zbrush, I intended to take it into 3DS Max 2010 and set it in a scene. There are several subtools in it. So, here’s my question: When you assign UV’s to the parts, is it just to that individual part, or is it assigned as a whole? The reason I asked is that the textures looked odd, bringing it into 3DS Max - extremely blocky. Also, it seemed UV’s already were on the other subtools, after assigning it to the first subtool, which must have been automatic.

Am I doing something wrong?
I hope someone could help me with this, if my question(s) is clear.
I painted the figure with PolyPaint, by the way.
