Texture map distortion problem

Hey, I’m new here! I’m having some problems getting the texture maps to match the normal maps. Here’s my character’s leg:

The Zbrush hi-poly on the far left actually has the texture map applied to it, and it looks identical to the polypaint at this resolution. But at the lowest subdivision, the texture map wants to conform to the sharp edges of the low-poly mesh. The normal map doesn’t do this and retains smooth edges, which means that they don’t match up at all when I put them together in Maya.

Here’s my basic workflow:

  1. low-res base mesh in Maya
  2. hi-poly sculpt in Zbrush 4 with Polypaint
  3. make texture map from polypaint on highest subdivision
  4. make normal map on lowest subdivision
  5. GoZ or manually export to Maya 2011
  6. …fail?

Any idea why it’s doing this or how to fix it? If you need me to clarify anything, please ask!

Thanks in advance!!
