Texture experiment

yay rick!

Rick,
It’s been a while since you’ve posted. I’ve seen some of your posts about Modo on the CGChannel, but I’m glad to see your work here again. I do believe I could pick out your work out of thousands of portrates even if it were only a handful. There’s just something I can’t define that you do that makes your work stand out. OK that’s an awful lot of sunshine:lol: , but dang!
PLEASE post more often!

thanks Hyper1 that was very nice of to say that . I think the reason that you can pick out my work is I write my name on really big, Actually I have posted a couple of things recently here on ZBC. the John the Baptist head and a thread called “todays project” or something like that. Although I have posted a few works on other forums ZBC is very special to me .It is the first place that I ever posted work, and ZB is what got me into this wonderful world of CG . Anyways I just wanted you to know that I read an appreciated your words as I do with all of the comments, well except for the ones like stick to rubber ,and you set CGI back 20 years. But hey, I guess you can’t please everyone. I do appreciate though, when people point out things that they see that bother them. After working an an image for a while sometimes you don’t see some glaring mistakes that fresh eyes catch immediately. That is not saying that I agree with all of them. Everyone has different tastes and styles ,thank goodness, that is what makes it interesting.Gee , I guess I’m feeling kind of wordy today. I’ll stop now.

“I read an appreciated your words as I do with all of the comments, well except for the ones like stick to rubber ,and you set CGI back 20 years.”

That’s terrible. I definitely disagree. I find you digital work inspirational and I’m thrilled that you’ve added modo to your arsenal.

Keep up the great work.

BTW - I saw Dion from Luxology demo modo at MGLA last week. He loaded a sphere and the adult female head that ships with modo. Then he applied a blank HDRI image to the sphere and used the Bake from Object feature to create a displacement map. When he rendered the sphere it looked just like the female head except for a few minor artifacts (it was only a 1k map). It was amazing. I mentioned it because you pointed out because this may be a good way to get a more faithful displacement map for your modo renders.

Skin wrinkles are excellent. Textures are great too.
Good job.
:+1:

this is just amazing, perfect

Great work…Amazing skin texture…:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

God, thats beautiful Rick! Inspiring work as always… That face reminds me a little of Dick Smiths makeup on Little Big Man : )

The tissuey wrinkles in the hand are fantastic.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Scott

Hey MM,

Just out of interest, . what happened to the animated alien head that you were doing? It was going to be in a laboratory scene ?
That was one of the most exciting things I’ve seen you do with ZB !
I hope your still exploring animation. Your sculpting and puppeteering skills alongside 3d animation would probably blow most current animators away !

Always admire your handling of details. This is looking amazing already.

BWAA HAHAA!

Sorry, but the irony’s too much on this one!

As far as setting back CGI 20 years, the absurdity of that statement
is too complete, I am a “traditional” artist as well, and
even though my skills haven’t brought me any rent money, it
doesn’t matter, a true artist need only thier mind, and soul as thier
medium!

An artist’s true work is simply WHO they are!

Go the monster Maker!

This is another fine piece from your screen Chris, I especially like the bereft of desire look her eyes have… It adds to the eerie feel of the shot

WOW, great job!:+1: :+1:

Beautiful work Rick.
