Texture experiment

hey rick!

great job as always.
the wrinkles and sad expression very well done, but who would have expected anything else from the master

Thanks everyone.
Digital Dreamer I forgot to add that I used a displacement rate of 0.8 instead of 1.0 and the displacement distance you just have to play with as it depends on the size of your model.
Everyone always asks about the hair, I made and rendered a 3D version of the hair with a displacement map texture then in PS painted hair over it. The 3D versions gives me the shadows and highlights so I don’t have to guess about their placement.
I’m glad that some of you think that it looks like a painting that is what I am trying for.
I am making some changes and additions to this and will post when I’m done.
thanks for responding it’s nice to know that someone is looking at this stuff

What can I say that has not been said. Thank you for sharing. Looks like time for me to look at Modo.

Lemo

love your work, always have,
did you build the mesh from Zpheres ?

It’s great to see your style transposed in digital.

way of the future?

cheers.

That hand is freakin awesome!!! I was pretty shure this was you work as soon as I saw the thumbnail.

Great work Rick.

Greg

Wonderful attention to the tiny details, such as the very fine lines on the nails. You made me really study the backs of my own hands. I was surprised to find the vein patterns are quite different on each hand. Cool.

This is the most realistic modeling I have ever seen.

Wow, great work as always

Great form and a detailing.

Diggin this one.

looks like an old indian…surveying what was once his way of life and realizing with a final sigh that it will never be again. I wonder what he is thinking…

Monstermaker, your sculpture always looks so inevitable. It’s like, somehow, whatever you’ve sculpted was always going to happen that way, you just kind of encouraged it. There’s such an effortless life in there.

It’s always a pleasure to look at the stuff you’ve done. Thanks for sharing it!

hey monster maker i love that hand your work stands out from the rest could you post your render settings so we can see how you get that nice soft shadowed look to your work i would love for my stuff to look good with that kind of render!!

very nice, are you plannig to do a full body or a bust?

OK I’m tired of working on this guy so I’m calling him done for ,now anyways. Thanks for looking, hope you like it.

Uhhh… yeah… Can’t think of anything to say.

Just blown away! Phenominal!

wow, youre tired and we are blown away…

Awesome! Do you start with the same base head for most of your models or do you model a fresh one to fit the design you have in your head?

I think they have to add more stars to the rating system just for Rick Baker!

BEAUTIFUL work Monstermaker !
reminds me somehow of a painting of an old Master…
