I forgot to mention that the background of the first image is a photo
nice use of alphas ! what is teh polycount ;f
the policount is around 7 milion
I think if you add a little blur to the background it will give this some depth. Right now it looks like focus is on the background instead.
Nice render
holly molly what a wonderful piece!? This should be top row at least for the photo-realism. I’m currently working experimenting with different rendering engines but I haven’t make any decision yet. I’ve heard that maxwell is the best renderer out in the market. could you share an insight on the making of this piece? What is the material setup? What is the lighting setup? what is the rendering time (I’ve heard it takes long time to give good results)? Did you use the maxwell’s plugin from another program or did you use the maxwell native studio?
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the comments guys
qoyun - yea, I’ll add some blur to the image, don’t know why I forgot that. Your scetchbook is awesome btw. I really like the Sean Penn portrait.
Eiad - thanks, I’m glad that u like it. I don’t know much about rendering so I can’t really advice you about render engines. I chose Maxwell because it was the first renderer I got decent results with. I tried to render the t-rex in Mental ray but somehow the scales didn’t look right but again I’m no expert in Mental ray
I’ll post the Maxwell light and material setup later, when I get back from work. I didn’t use plugins, just imported the meshes in the Maxwell studio. The render time was like 2 hours, but my machine is really slow

it’s a two layer material, the bottom layer is not reflective (like lambert) and it gives the diffuse characteristics. The top layer gives the reflections (something like a specular pass). Hope that helps
Thanks for watchig guys!

Thanks for the explanation. I can’t wait to see the material and light setup.
