symmetry issue 3.1

symmetry issue 3.1

my symmetry stopped working and when I tried to make one side look like the other again by masking a section and hitting smart ReSym nothing happens also the symmetry dot that mirrors my brush is off ,is there a default setting for that incase I accidentally hit a wrong button. Any help on resolving this would be awesome, thanks

Hi Brian.

hit either x, y, or z or all of them for symmetry on those axis. If your symmetry in the deformations dialogue stopped working check the preview window (also under tool) and check your pivot is in the centre. If this is the case hit resymmetry and then try smart resymmetry again.

On the tool/sculpt In the preview winnow the red crosshair is off to the right of where it is normally placed, is there a way to correct this?

Thanks Brian

This subpalette works similarly to the preview window in the Draw Palette. The main difference is that it contains a red cross, which you can drag around in the window to set the object’s center of rotation. Also, dragging the cross pans the window when you drop the cross, setting the new center at the cross location. Dragging elsewhere in the preview window rotates the contents.

Note: Any changes that you make to the Tool:Modifier settings that alter the tool’s appearance are reflected immediately in the preview. They are also reflected in the active object in the document if the Transform:Move/Scale/Rotate/Edit Object mode is turned on. Otherwise, the changes appear the next time you add a copy of the tool to the document.
Store: After rotating the object in the preview window, click this button to set the current orientation as the default orientation for the object. This is convenient if you’re always rotating objects after you add them; just set the default orientation here first.
Restore: Restores the default orientation for the preview window, if you’ve changed the default orientation.

Although I have had it once where the pivot was in the centre of the model but one hand was so serverly altered smart resym wouldnt work, then resym under deformations did. Your pivot though has gone out of centre and the above info should do the trick.

I have the same problem , symmetry working not correctly , i’ve tryied to do poseable symmetry and other , but it dosent work . So , in preview window i see that center cross isn’t in center , and when ill drag it to the center , symmetry works properly . But it wasnt like this before , so , do i need drag this guy each time i sculpt non symmetrical object ? It is makes me very angry , cause in Maya that pivot point stands in center when im exporting obj file .

Dunric, your Maya export settings probably have some setting that is telling it to export with world coordinates or local transformations or some such. This causes it to export based on its position relative to the document’s origin rather than the object’s own center.

And how can i fix those settings ?

I have the same problem where my Preview window’s cross hair is off center.

My bigger problem is that, i am using subtool for the character’s leg, body and head etc… so when i used Unify, Smart Resym or Resym, the head, the body the legs will just reset to it’s own center, so in other words the legs is crashing into the chest of the body and the head is in side the chest.

Is there an accurate way to reset the Preview’s cross hair back to center?
