Switch off Blur mask – Ctrl+Click

Hi,

I have been struggling to create a realistic leopard skin on a model I will eventually 3d print and then cast into pewter.

I tried finding alphas, but they just didn’t have the realism.

Now my plan is to draw each leopard spot with a mask and then sink the spots with the move tool or another relevant brush.

The problem I have though is I keep accidentally blurring the mask with Ctrl+Click. Is there a way to switch that functionality off?

OR… Should I be using the new polygroupit function?? The problem I have with this is I find painting really confusing. I have filled a model with a colour before, but I had such trouble figuring out how to undo the colour I got lost. Not I am afraid to even use painting incase I get lost again. I have never really needed to paint because I always 3D print my work to be cast in pewter.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Ben

Are you trying to represent the hair of the animal without fibermesh to allow 3d printing? I guess so.
In that case how you want to represent the spots of a leopard when in a real one is only done color. Do you mean you are painting the model instead sculpting? And if you are painting it how you will translate the color to the 3d print?

I am not using fiber mesh.

I usually use the mask tool animal patterns. As an example I mask out the stripes on a zebra then sink or raise it using the move tool. Then once the print has been moulded and cast in pewter the relief is shown only slightly as it is not polished. This gives me the animal print.

The leopard is a bit more tricky for me. I am using paint at the moment because it doesn’t blur it if I accidentally ctrl + click it. Then I will convert the paint to a mask and then do my relief work.

Is there a way to switch off ctrl + click for blurring a mask?
