surface noise

can anyone give me some tips with surface noise like some breakdows of what the curves actualy controls in the generated noise, most the times i like to make my noise completely negative like holes in the mesh, but it seems no matter which way i put my strength slider i always get some noise in the add dirrection, can this be controlled more with the curve? and what does the curve relate to, thanks a lot for any help

Well i have just started playing with surface noise myself. I believe the curve controls where and how much noise you get on the surface of your mesh.
You can also control where exactly you want noise by first applying the noise you want with the proper settings and under morph target tab hit StoreMT
you can then proceed to press Apply to mesh and back in the morph target tab hit switch. Then it’s just a matter of choosing the morph brush and paint in your noise. This was actually from a video from Pixologic and it works slick.
Only thing is i am having problems appying noise to cubes that i want to make pillars out of
