Surface noise not transffering to Keyshot

Shouldn’t the surface noise be visible in Keyshot without applying it to the model as a real geometry change? I bridge my model with surface noise on it but in Keyshot it is not there.
Anyone know anything about this?

Don’t believe that surface noise transfers unless you actually apply it to the model.

I am pretty sure I did it in zbrush 4r7 and Keyshot 6 last year, now i have 4r8 and Keyshot 7.

You have to apply the noise to the model first, that’s the way it has been since the first Keyshot for ZBrush.

Aah, ok. Thanks : )

I found this in the zbrush docs:

“Whether you are using BPRor the ZBrush to KeyShot Bridge, you can now see procedural and texture-created surface noise rendered as displaced geometry. This process is automatic; after designing your noise you no longer need to worry about applying it before you can view the result on your geometry. All you need to do is render!”

Sounds like you should be able to view it in keyshot without applying it.

Anyone else having problem with this? Or anyone able to render surface noise in Keyshot without actually applying it? : )

That doesn’t always work, in my experience. Just apply the noise in ZBrush and see it work in Keyshot. You can always undo it in ZBrush later.

That will not work for me, I sometimes want to use surface noise on low and medium poly models. To apply it you need high poly models if you want good results. And no, I do not want to dynamesh or subdivide all my models to test the surface noise in Keyshot : )

I would duplicate and subdivide the objects, use the duplicates to test the noise on and leave the originals unmolested.

You should submit a Support ticket if you think it should be working the way it’s supposed to.

Done

I’m using Zbrush 2018 and Keyshot 8. Using surface noise without applying it to the geometry works at any subdivision level. Pretty slick. Not sure how it is doing it because there are no extra maps generated that I can tell. The noise stays with the model even if you totally change the surface in Keyshot. The only problem I see/am having is that the resulting file size is giant! I’d rather bake the noise into my texture map some how.

Any suggestions?
