Suggestion for Opening A Mouth

Hey All,
I have this creature head i have done, think snake/lizar like. The piece is solid and the mouth is closed. Now a request has been made for the mouth to be open.

Any thought or suggestions on how to do this? I thought about doing a retop on the geometry and making it 2 pieces, but not sure exactly how to do it.

Thanks,
Doug

you can keep it one mesh. You’ll just have to break the topo at the mouth so it can have internals.

project the new geo onto the closed mouth version.
then open the mouth enough for you to create the rest of the internals for the mouth.

then project the new mesh (open mouth with internals) onto the mesh that has the open mouth.

then just sculpt the inside of the mouth.

hope that helps.

so do you mean retopologize it but instead of a block head redraw at the mouth across thus creating an opening when turned into adaptive skin? and the best way to do this is maybe hide the lower jaw while retopologizing the top half of the mouth maybe?

Thanks,
Doug
