suggestion for better forum organization

Hello to all of you zbrushers. Both, humans and aliens

First I’d like to express respect for superb zbrush community. Amount of helpful and talented people here is insane… Hope it will just get better and better in time that comes.

However I do have one idea. Not mine of course, just something I noticed on few other forums.

Well, this is how it goes:
I noticed that in many great posts (artworks, tutorials… ) there are many short “thanks”, “excellent”, “bravo!” replies. Since starting post is so good (in artistic or usefulness means) amount of “thanks, great” become so big that going through the thread and looking for some information becomes quite time consuming/wasting experience.

Of course, it is of great importance to show gratitude and respect for someone’s work. I do not question that. I just think that it’d be better to apply few new (but old  ) ideas.

1st Make “thanks”/“respect” buttons

2nd Make an announcement that people should use new “thanks”/“whatever” button, so each post will have an expandable list of thankful/respectful people.
In this way topic will be “cleaner”, and replies will be more useful, whether it is a question of elaborating on the subject or asking a question.

3rd All respect will be there;

4th Stars rating system is also good way to show greatness/usefulness of certain thread.

5th Don’t get me wrong, this is no preaching, just an attempt to be constructive and useful. I do not know how much work it requires, and is it possible just to add that kind of functionality, or complete forum must be rewritten…

I uploaded an example from one forum. I erased all information related with it (user names, content…) just to illustrate the idea.

Hope this will have enough sense.

Respect,

Dj.

good idea, THANKS…I know, this is going against everything you just wrote, but I do agree, that sifting through the rubble on ZBC should have a better way. Anyway, someone that matters will see this, and I hope they take note

riiiiiiiiiiight because somehow its better to just have a thanks counter instead of say actual human comments and hopefully constructive criticism, i’m sure seeing that magic thanks number would help out the forums perhaps but not the people who post. also the star rating system is totally fubar as has been discussed here before.

^ exactly,
there is a difference between constructive criticism and 10 in a row one word thanks… I apologize if I did not explain myself good enough. I never wanted to question constructiveness or a good debate… you can learn great things that way…

Buttons and stars would be actually only for those who wish to give just a good ol’ shiny thank you…
Personally I don’t see anything less nice in having a bright gold star as someone’s sign of respect

i personally think the forums are fine as they are. I’m not a big fan of that particular style of forum, i’ve seen it on other sites and I think it’s clunky and cluttered.

If you find it difficult to find the information you want then try the Search facility. The advanced search gives you the option of searching by user name/ forum. There is also a ‘Search this thread’ option for the first post in a thread to help you locate the item you’re interested in.
