Hello, I cannot get subtract with dynamesh to work. It only adds. I use insert mesh in the geometry palette and I hit sub, and, also add. They all do the same thing. The Zbrush documentation says to hold alt while inserting the mesh. I have not seen a difference. What am I doing wrong? My other question is why would “sub” and “add” ever give me the same results? This is VERY counter intuitive. I don’t understand why 2 opposite operations could ever have the same result.
Sub button does not currently appear to be functioning as the documentation says it should.
You insert a negative mesh by holding down ALT while drawing it out. It will then remesh as a negative shape.
Do this:
- Draw out Zbrush sphere primitve in edit mode, make Polymesh 3d.
2)Select Insert Cylinder brush, and draw a cylinder into the surface while holding ALT.
-
Clear the mask by hitting Ctr+Shift+A, or by CTRL-dragging in empty canvas space.
-
Press Dynamesh in the geometry palette.
There you go. If for some reason its not working in your previous situation, it has to do with your process there, or something specific to the geometry you’re manipulating.
Don’t remesh by pressing “add” or “sub”. Remesh once dynamesh is active by ctrl-dragging in empty canvas, or ctrl-alt dragging to combine the steps of clearing a mask and remeshing.
So I guess you have to use the insert mesh tool and not the insert mesh button.
This is a separate function, yes. I haven’t checked it, but I doubt holding down alt while pressing that button works the same way. However you can make a mesh you insert using that button negative, by duplicating it with the transpose Move function, and holding down Ctrl-Alt while dragging on the middle circle. This will make the duplicate a negative mesh.
Easier to use an insertion brush, but that option remains for when you insert geometry via a different method.
