Subtools Master- merging just 2 subtools? - solved

Hello,
I’m trying to figure out how would I go about using the Subtools Master in order to merge just 2 of the subtools together and not all of them…
Anyone knows?

Thanks.

Did you tried to hide the visibility of the other subtools you want to preserve and hit Append for the ones you want to be merged?

Yes, the only visible subtools are the ones I want to be merged yet everything is being merged

Maybe a little longer way is to simply delete all other subtools except the ones you want merged, merge them, save that Ztool as something else, load back up your original Ztool and finally append the new tool to the original (delete the previous subtools if you want). I’m pretty sure that once you merge though, your subdivision levels are lost so if you have a high amount of detail make sure your highest level is active when merging then simply reconstruct the low levels. Not sure why it won’t work but this might help.

Yeah, that works.
I just have so many workarounds in zbrush and I’m sick of it…
Every work around makes whatever I’m doing longer to create…
Was wondering if there’s a way to merge those 2 without the need to save them separately and reimporting them again.

There’s a simpler way (note that your subtools should have the same number of subdivison levels if you want to preserve the levels):

  1. Select one of the subtools and press Tool>Clone.
  2. Select the other subtool and press Tool>Geometry>InsertMesh. Select the cloned subtool from the pop-up.

Did exactly as you wrote but nothing happened…
as soon as I delete that other subtool I have a missing part, insert mesh doesn’t bring it back either way…?
In case it does work, will I be able to actually merge the vertices like merge subtools does?

Thanks.

Delete? Where did I say to delete?

Well I do want to merge the 2 subtools together… and I thought that clone and insert mesh should combine the 2 so the remaining subtool which was cloned at first can now be deleted…? though the 2 are still not combined.

Well yes, but delete after you’ve successfully combined the subtools.

Check that the two subtools have the same number of subdivision levels (and are at the highest level). If they don’t then either delete lower levels so that they are the same or subdivide so that they are the same. If the subtools still won’t combine then delete all lower levels for both so that each has no subdivision levels and try that.

It worked perfectly ! It also merged the vertices correctly.
Thanks again Marcus
