Subtools management

Hi! How can I select subtools from the viewport? manipulate the visiability of subtools from the viewport? How can I group them(if it is possible) in order to manipulate the whole groop in the lowest subdiv level. How can I use one subtool-each polygroup with different number of subdivisions?

Shift+Alt mouse click on the subtool to select it

I think just Alt+mouse click works.
