Subtools and Transparency

I’m just getting my head around ZBrush and I have to admit, I am getting there slowly.

However could anyone help me with the following issue?

  1. I select the Cube 3D as a subtool, click EDIT, Make PolyMesh 3D and draw the subtool on the edit screen.
  2. Select the Gear 3D as a subtool, which appears on the edit screen.
  3. I then append the Cube 3D, which results in both sutools appearing on the edit screen.

The next step is where I am having a problem. This could be due to the process above.

  1. Select Gear 3D and click Transparent.

The problem is, that the subtool I select in the subtool pallet doesn’t become transparent, the oposing subtool becomes transparent. If I select the Gear 3D and click transparent, the Cube 3D becomes transparent. If I select the Cube 3D and click transparent the Gear 3D becomes transparent.

This makes it impossible to edit the subtool which I want to be transparent.

Any help would be gratefully received.

tool>preferences>draw.

there are settings for opacity for the selected subtool as well as the unselected ones.

Thanks for the reply gost666

I can’t find preferences under Tool. I’ve had a look under Preferences/Draw but can’t find any reference to opacy.

I am currently running ZBrush 3.12 on Mac OZ X.

Does this make any difference?

Thanks again for the interest.

eh…sorry. Yeah, it’s in preferences>draw. Well…on 3.1 anyway. I don’t own a mac so I’m probably not any help. Sorry.

The problem lies between PC and Mac as usual.

I did some searching and finally found some answers.

Apparently the Mac version works in a completely different way. I can only guess this is a bug on the Mac. I mean why would you want to make the subtool you haven’t selected transparent?

Anyway I found a work around that sort of makes sense and anyone having the same problem can find it here:

The link to “robotball’s” website covering “tutorials concerning Mac ZBrush issues” is really useful as well and can be found on the above link (thread).

Gabo1991 also provides a useful link to download an “ImageplaneX_V3” for the Mac, which can also be found on the above link (thread).

Thanks again goast666 for showing some interest in helping. Much appreciated.
