Subtools and Materials (answered)

Is it possible for different subtools to have different materials ?

I’ve tried putting one material on one tool and it seems to propagate to all subtools ?

Am I missing something ?

The default behaviour of a subtool is to take on the selected material. In order to ‘fix’ a material you need to fill the subtool with it:

  1. Select the subtool.
  2. Select the material.
  3. Make sure the ‘M’ or Mrgb’ button is on in the Draw palette. Note that with Mrgb on the subtool will be filled with color too, so if you have doen some polypainting this will be erased.
  4. Press Color>Fill Object.

Once a subtool is filled with a material you can paint with other materials on it (providing the M or Mrgb button is on).

The SubTool Master plugin has a ‘Fill’ option for automatically filling the visible subtools with color and/or material.

Well in that case I have absolutely no idea whats going on.

I did exactly what you said and yet again every subtool takes on the same material.

So I switch back to a different subtool again and changed its material and wham yet again every subtool has that new material.

Weird !

It seems I am stuck to one material only for everything.

Are you sure that you are turning on the ‘M’ or Mrgb’ buttons? And how about SubTool Master - that really does simplify the process.

We have lift-off! It works !

Thanks Marcus :+1:

Subtool Master does just what it says on the tin, Nice and simple.

Great!
