subtool substitutions

Sorry to keep asking questions, but I’m having a problem with loading subtools. Several things seem to be happening.

  1. Many times, when I load a tool I have created, when I load a second tool to append to it, it replaces the first tool on the canvas and in the subtool palette. When I draw an instance of the second subtool onto my canvas and try to append it with the first, the first loaded subtool is no longer in the tool or subtool palette.

  2. I’ve been saving versions of my subtools as I go along. I now have one I am happy with and load it into my palette. When I then go to append my second subtool, it changes my first subtool back to an earlier version that I don’t want. Sometimes, it seems to lose parts of the subtool, like hair and clothes, even though they loaded at the beginning.

  3. One of my subtools is a figure with hair and clothes. When I append her to my second subtool (a rock) and try and move/rotate her into position, the hair and clothes get left behind. The clothes are based on an extract, as is the scalp beneath the hair. I’ve overcome it by merging them together, but I don’t really want to do this. It makes further editing difficult.

I’ve tried to find information on this and read that funny things can happen with loading similar subtools. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to overcome this?

Subtool Master>> MultiAppend

Do I need to download this, Doug? It says it is included in a deafult installation of ZB4R6, but I don’t see it under subtools. Do I then append my hair and clothes to the model to stop them from separating when I move them? Funny thing is, this only happens after I append something else. Before that they all move together.

Zplugin:SubTool Master. Already included. You should read more. In the tool menu are basic tools which you can put on the canvas to work with, select one and whatever is displayed will change to that tool. It could be one of your subtools such as the rock, guessing it is 1 part. You also have a figure subtool which may be made up of several parts. In its icon is a number showing how many. Hope that helps.

Thanks Doug. It is really difficult starting out with ZBrush. I apologise for asking so many questions, which probably have obvious answers when you know the programme. It is very complex and there are a lot of terms to learn. Believe me, I have been reading. I work with the programme for 10 hours a day and then I sit down and read the manual/watch videos on my tablet. It is a lot of information to take in at one time, and it is scattered between different pages and areas. Once I have a feel for the workflow, it will be better. It can be very frustrating doing things over and over. I spent hours last night getting my figure the way I wanted it, saved it as a tool, only to find that it reverted to an earlier version when I tried to append it.

Transpose Master is designed to help you pose a model that is composed of SubTools. It works by creating a low resolution combined mesh of all the SubTools which you can pose. The pose can then be transferred back to the original model.
The Transpose Master sub-palette is in the Zplugin palette.

Thanks Stone3D. That is really helpful.

It wouldn’t ‘revert’. Any unwanted tools in the tool pallette can be deleted(except the standard ones). Make sure you name them well and watch where they are saved to.
