Subtool/polygroup help

Hey,
I am a new user to zbrush and I am trying to learn all the ropes. currently i am designing a ring. i have managed to sculpt it and save it as a ztool. what i need is that ring which i have created duplicated and the two joined by a single rod. My original idea was basically i would copy and paste and use the preset ztools to make the rod. I have since learned that cant work because i can then not go back into edit mode once i have left. from my research i believe i will need to use polygroups or subtools but for the life of my i cant figure out how. in my subtool palette i have two rings but i can not see both at the same time to work with them appropriately, in fact i dont even know if i am looking at two objects rings because they are meant to be identical.

Please help this is making me crazy

Hi!

I know, very strange. Do like this;

1 Make your ring
2 Duplicate it
3 Down in the subtool “merge visible”
4 In the toolpalate klick, in my case, “Merged_3DM_”
5 Boom,Zoom.jpg you got one poly merged

I think I understand the problem you are having. A couple of things to remember…

  1. When you ‘Duplicate’ something in the Subtool palette, it will place the copy in the exact same position as the original. It only looks like there is only one. Just select the duplicate in the subtool list and use the ‘Move’ transform (W) and move it over. You can also use the ‘Offset’ slider in Tool > Deformation to move it.

  2. You can do multiple tasks (or models) in ZBrush at the same time. When you switch to do the second one, the first one is still in the Tool palette. It hasn’t disappeared. The only way it would disappear is if you closed ZBrush. You can create one thing, clear the canvas (Ctrl+N), create another thing, then ‘Append’ the first thing to the second thing. etc.
