Subtool Deformation Crashes

Almost all the time when I try using Deformation:Offset with subtools with the exception of the subtool at the top, I keep getting error messages and ZBrush crashes.

Here is the error message:

Internal Error \list.cpp Line:143
Locked main mem in list-out
Object

Here were the specific steps I take which causes the same error everytime:

I select the Sphere3D tool and click the MakePolymesh3D button, then I select the Ring3D tool and click the MakePolymesh3D button.

I go to the subtool menu for the for the Polymeshed Sphere and append the polymeshed Ring3D to it.

Then I select the appended Ring3D subtool and try to offset by 50 or -50 in the y direction and it crashes with the same error message everytime.

I have been unable to duplicate this. I followed your steps, and have also done tests with other models.

IMPORTANT: Before posting a troubleshooting item, make sure that:

  1. You are using the latest ZBrush version.

  2. You have a ‘clean’ ZBrush install. i.e. remove any items which you have added (such as older ZScripts and other startup items) which may result in unexpected - and difficult to resolve - problems.

  3. You did not increase the PreferencesMax polygon count or Compact Mem to a level which can not be supported by your system specs.

i made another test taking the report from aurick and i was unable this time to reproduce the crash. Here is the zscript

FYI: I posted a ‘crashes every time’ method for this bug here…

Looks like this might be AMD specific.

FYI. I’m on a P4 - 3.2GHz

I am having the same problem. crashes every time.
I append my model with a pm3d sphere, select that sub tool, and when i try to size it down ( using tool-deformations)to make an eyeball the program crashes.

I tried to work around this by getting out of draw mode and using the scale and move method there but the sphere warps and i cant get it to stay round by moving/scaling it that way.

Is there any other way to make subtools?

I have pentium core 2

Know bug since 3.0 days, crashes on my box too.

Before I try a deformation step, I now do a transform scale, then an Undo (end result = no scaling). Then I do the deformation op’.

Seems to avoid the crash. At least I’ve not seen it since…

It’ll crash next time now for sure

I tried it and it seems to be working for me as well. Thanks grey32

Grey you rock I have always hated that bug!
The one good thing about the bug is I got wicked fast at using the transpose tool since I was in constant fear of a crash from the deformation movement

Grey32,

Holy bovine… somehow I missed this thread and your very timely suggestion (been fighting this bug all weekend). I’ll give it a try now and if it works, I owe you one.

(I had just posted for help with the very same issue in the ZScript forum…)

[update: OK Grey, thanks again buddy, it seems to be working - woohoo! ]

Oh that really worked grey  thanks man, this bug have made me crazy since i got zb3.1. But will there be a real long term fix for this?

I’m on AMD system too.
