Subdivision problem

i’ve only used Zbrush a few times, so perhaps someone could answer something for me.
for my Biker’s handlebar mustache it’s really jagged and doesn’t look much like hair. And that is because it lacks geometry in that area. however Zbrush won’t let me subdivide any more geometry into the mesh. when i try it says that i have to be on the lowest subD level. and when i switch to the lowest and try it says i need to be on the highest subD level
and sometimes it says that it is more polys than my PC can handle or something like that however that one is rare. i know how to add edge loops to increase the geometry in an area. my question is: is there an easier way to increase geometry in a certain area and why can’t i sub divide anymore?

or if someone has a suggestion to sculpt hair differently, i’m just using the slash and slash2 brushes.

Here’s my biker

it wont let you subD because you have a mask on the model. At your lowest subD you can locally sub divide the areas that you would like the extra geometry. Simply mask off the mouth (stash) area, then invert the mask, then divide. Try it out on a box or sphere so you can see how it works. There is also stuff all over in the wiki.

Locally subdividing the model is going to introduce triangles where the two mesh densities meet. This results in artifacts with smoothing as the model is divided.

You should consider splitting your head off from the rest of the body, making it a new SubTool. This will allow you to give more polys to the head without the triangles.
