Great likeness man!
Really good likeness.
I used to compare my work to others, and decided it was a waste of energy. I am where I am. Not everything is a home run.
But! Was it fun doing it? …that question is most important to me. Not fun; then do what it takes to make it fun. When I do that, it makes the process worth it.
Making art is, after all a journey. Perhaps there’s no destination.
Cheers!
Thanks everyone,
@ nagulov : haha Thanks man.
@ willbrown1 : Thanks.
Taking a break from likenesses for a second, thinking about starting a new project. Just playing with the design.
the idea is basically a cyclists “bikie” gang member.
Thanks again everyone.
more soon.

Quick Helmet test.

haha, great character already
I took the opportunity to overlay your Reeves sculpt with the photo reference, and I have to say… Pretty damn close xD Was it just the amount of time it took that didn’t please you?
I like where bikie is going.
Does he already have his spandex on? It looks like he’s got his junk packed tight, ha.
The helmet looks pretty fleshed out so I thought I’d comment: The back of the helmet is usually lower than the front to protect more of the skull and usually there is a secondary strap that goes behind the ears. With that in mind, it might go with his facial features to put the helmet on backwards and canted to one side? Just a funny thought from life observations, ha.
@ Intervain : Thanks… but with the Comicon challenge starting soon, I am pretty sure this guy will not get too much further.
@ Skinkk : haha thanks, yeah it is not only the time but I found that my progress was not very linear. I would start, work away for a while, then end up going off model and having to go back to a previous save and start again. One day I would like to be able to sit down and just bam out a quick likeness in one session with no restarts… That fells like a long way away at the moment… Maybe I will get there one day.
@ skasse : haha yeah I could not let the next post go without that little extra something ;-). Yeah still playing with the helmet, Not sure if I will go for the secondary strap or not but we will see. realistic is not really my aim with this guy. I do really dig the idea of the helmet being lop sided though. Thanks for the feedback man.
Thanks again everyone and I guess I will see you all again with a Comicon character on the go.
A new thing…I have NO idea who she is. I need to figure it out. She started as an alternate Alice in Wonderland then she was some possibly cyborg mechanic chick, and everything in between. I just can’t decide…but I need to because I am happy with the sculpt so far and I don’t want to throw in the towel just because I can’t decide… Any suggestions are welcome.

Some cool stuff and nonsense you have here, maybe it’s the haircut but your latest character reminds me of Pris from Blade Runner, I’m curious what the end result will be.
…was Pris from Blade Runner. Not an exact match, but it was the first thing to pop into my head.
The middle shot kinda makes me think of the Bride of Frankenstein with a new hairdo, too.
Lovely face!
First thought was also Blade Runner.
My suggestion is go with Blade Runner crossed with Prometheus.
Your Chris Reeves looks legit IMO. I lol’d at your graph cause I feel the same. You gotta climb the mountain…then find out there is another mountain at its peak… and so on. If you do not mind a small critique the first thing I saw when comparing your sculpt to the image was the length of the jaw and the form of the nose. Aside from that, really good likeness, it is recognizable immediately.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Pris was never a thought while I was sculpting her but I can see a resemblance. I woke up two mornings ago and someone over at Polycount had actually sat down and written a whole back story for her. Such a good idea and exactly what I was after. Either way here she is and the story behind her as well.
"Ariel.
Ariel is tired, but determined. A somewhat beaten doll polishing itself slowly but surely.
Ariel is a professional dancer in the East Brannderg District. She’s just came off a bad relationship with an ex-boyfriend, someone who was knocking her around for too long, taking avantage of her dream to love and be loved.
She used to have long hair, but after the break-up she changed it, feeling a need to express her new found emotional freedom with physical change as well.
She tapped back into her dancing career that she left behind when she moved in with her ex. She’s not as thin and lithe as she was before, but her shapely body could still undulate, snap, pop, and glide. She knew restarting would be challenging, so gogo dancing was acceptable in her book.
Her hours are long in the night, something she’s not used to. She’s getting bags under her eyes. She’s had to take stimulants, intravenous and orally, to keep energized. But her drive hasn’t died. These club gigs will only be for a couple months. At most a couple years. Just gotta save, and wait for the next opportunity to rehearse for a Broadway show. She’s not there yet, but she will be. She’ll be what her 12 year old self wanted to be after seeing Cats for the first time in New York.
Ariel is a gogo dancer. She works in East Brannderg. Her curves flick and carve laser light and neon glows into feminine form, accentuating the thumping whines of the DJ music.
She is alive. She is doing decently. Her spring is coming."
Here is where I am at. Still just trying to find her style any suggestions are welcome
hmmm can’t seem to post up images… and can’t link from my imageshack either.
Hooray I can upload images again :D. Ok so you guys have missed out on some updates but this is where she is at the moment. Basically trying to get everything to the same level before I go through and add details.
Excellent. gives strenght to keep going on!
Love your work and style! Very inspiring!
Thanks guys
OK so played with the face details. I have dropped the Nasion, Glabella and the Brow ridges, as well as lifting the bottom of the nose which also lengthened the Philtrum. Over all I think I am happier with the results. also testing out some cool drappy pants…which do you guys prefer? In a lot of ways I think I prefer the baggy pants. I feel like they add more interest.
Thanks again. Time for sleep now.
More soon.

Yeah the baggy pants are a great idea! Some tatoos later would give the final touch ahaha
Ducan, sorry for the question but is this character topology like this one you made on the face?
If not, and when you make topology, which workflow do you prefer for it? Zbrush, topogun, 3dcoat, 3dsmax or Maya? I kinda got confused in wich way is the better (and faster) for Retopo since programs have been upgrading a lot. And i ask this because i’m a noobie with lots of study and practise to make… yet trying to understand the best way of game character workflow from high to low
and figuring out the better study path.
Thanx a lot!
Keep up the good work!
