Studio Wall I

FinalNoses_Med.jpg

Studio Wall I is the first part in my zbrush studies of the human features. I decided after “Study of Anne” to get more familiar with the face. Over the course of 3 weeks I sculpted one nose every working day giving myself between 30 to 60 minutes to complete a nose starting from a poly plane in zbrush. Here is the final result of my nose studies.
If you would like to follow my progress I have started an anatomy thread over at cgtalk http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=200&t=473361

The noses are in chronological order, the first 5 modelled using plaster casts purchased from the amazing figurative artist Philippe Faraut. http://philippefaraut.com/ The remaining noses were modelled from photographs of people found on 3d.sk.

Comments and crits welcome, thanks for looking.

Wow ,

this is cool man .
I recently started to learn more from anatomy , and allready my models start
to look better that i’ve ever could imagine !

very cool studies. Looks like you will learn a lot from it.

Cool study idea. Great way to understand the underlying structure. Great Job!

Just bear in mind, when modeling the whole, ideal work flow IMHO should be large masses first, moving to intermediate masses, then details.

Tools like ZBrush make it very easy to skip to the details. Artists, even those working at an advanced level, ought to maintain a Macro to Micro workflow and avoid this pitfall. I think it’s what usually prevents a work from succeeding. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

nice, I saved the image under my references for noses. I love the variety

Hi plunq!

Thanks for sharing your sculpts. They came just like the plaster ones from the website. Thanks for sharing the Philippe Faraut webiste, very inspiring stuff.
I have a question… What kind of render and material did you use for your nouse cast renders?

Ok, keep the good work!

Javier Loredo.

wow great work! i personally dont mind the studies that much, but it does show me how you came 2 such a nice wall.
fantastic man!

Greets joep.

You should have that 3d printed, cast and mounted on your wall.

Great modeling! :+1:

I think this is a great idea. I did the same thing with pencil drawing when I was learning to draw portraits…I would do 100 eyes, 100 noses, etc until I felt I could do them without guides. I don’t know why I didn’t think of doing the same with 3d modeling, especially since I could use the practice.

Thank you so much for sparking an idea. Great work on your noses, btw.

Thanks everyone for all your comments, sorry it took a while to write back. I’ve been busy working on the next Studio Wall image
