Stroke Menu Locked

Hello everyone. I’m trying to activate the sliders for the “Stroke” in the menu. They’re all locked. I’ve noticed “Spacing” is locked regardless of what brush I choose. Does someone know how to unlock it? I ask because I keep getting the “dots” effect even with freehand. Unless I set the focal shift very low along with the z-intensity, I’ll still get the dots.

I found a similar thread earlier and it said activate “PM.” I didn’t want to reply to that seeing as it was very old but I don’t know what he meant by PM. Thanks for your help.

I think the “spacing” parameter only refers to 2D/2.5D mode brushes on the stroke menu. Spacing for 3D brushes is more often controlled by using something like Lazy Mouse and setting its parameters.

If your stroke is breaking up with a 3D brush, you may be able improve the situation by going to Preferences -> Performance -> Mouse and Tablet samples and turning that number up. (I think it defaults around 100/sec.)

If you still can’t get the smoothness of stroke you’re looking for, try experimenting with lazy mouse for 3D sculpting.

(The “PM” referred to in that old post I think was “Projection Master” which allows you to apply 2D/2.5D painting techniques to 3D objects.)

Thanks for the help. I tried updating the samples and It didn’t change the spacing. I even tried using a ZBrush 3.1 brush set and no luck. I would do the lazy mouse trick (where all sliders are low) but it becomes laggy. Understandable seeing as that it’s lazy mouse but I still can’t trick the machine into imitating a freehand. I don’t mean to complain but I really don’t think that I should have to “trick” the machine in to doing something simple.

I have also noticed that the spacing problem only occurs on higher subdivision levels. It looks fine on low levels until I subdivide it. It’s not a lag either like mentioned in some of the older threads. My hardware is far from low end.
