Straps workflow in general

Hi,

I’m always struggling with making straps and similar stuff. Right now, i’m about to start modeling a horse bridle which is pretty much nothing more, so i thought i’d check with you, good people of ZbrushCentral, about your workflows for such cases. Neat topology is a great bonus, but not necessary as long as the workflow is efficient. I’m about to model smthing like this:

With wider bigger straps I’d just play with topology tool, but with thinner ones, they come out too distorted and cleaning takes a while.

Thanks in advance for any tips

There’s a pretty good (and free) tutorial here for strap making. It’s specifically for boot straps, but I think it could be adapted. Good luck!

Thanks a lot Voodoodad!:+1: Will check it asap!

Edit: Unfortunately, that’s not what i meant. I’d like to have them as a separate piece of geometry and not sculpted in… but thanks anyway

Yeah, I really should have watched it again before I recommended it . But the good news is that I remembered another one on youtube which I think is more what you’re looking for. Sorry about the first one.

Knedlo, I was experimenting a little today with a way to make straps and found that using the ring3d tool with a low inside radius works pretty well. Better for me than using zspheres. Initialize the ring to get the most basic shape, make it a 3d object and then you can use the deformation pallet and the move brush on a large setting to refine the strap however you like.

Here’s what I’m working on. It’s obviously not real refined yet, but the basics for a decent looking strap (totally separate geometry) are there.

Hey… sorry it took me that long, but I was busy working. So again thanks for the tip… This can be pretty usefull in some cases. :+1:
