strange UV behaviour

Hi,
I am wondering what would cause the effect below:

Image 1 is the polypainted model at low res without UV created and textured

The other images are the various create UV options - UVC, UVP etc

I have tried dynameshing and zremeshing the model and the same problem occurs

Because you don’t explain all steps you follow it is not possible to know what one fails. In any case I would not use any of the UV generation tools found in the tool section. They are rather legacy tools and there are no reasons to use them having UV master. Then, simplifying the workflow as much as possible:

  • Be sure that you have polypaint in the model, for example swapping to other colors should not change automatically the model. Bitmap texture should be off.
  • Go to UV master and hit the unwrap button.
  • Now in tools: texture map, create, new from polypaint.
  • Done.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong - you seem to be trying various UV options and expecting one of the existing texture maps to display correctly. That won’t happen. As Altea suggests, use the UV Master plugin to create UV mapping that is ‘human readable’ - a flat ‘pelt’ type map - if that’s what you want.

Thanks Altea, it is good to know that the UV master is the way to go.

Hi Marcus, I guess what I am asking is why the black bits occur - it seems as thought these are parts that the UV map doesn’t cover? Maybe I am not understanding.

In case it is helpful to someone else, I actually seemed to solve this by exporting the subtool as an obj and reimporting - then it seemed to work using the same workflow I followed before - using the UV map function in the tool menu, and the “create texture from polypaint”.

Scott,

Without knowing the exact steps you are taking, and having your model to test, I can’t say exactly what is causing the black bits. If you can share your model I’ll take a look.
