Strange Symptoms

WinXP32, ZB 3.1

I’m having some issues with one of my ZTools. They may or may not be related.

  1. I’ve lost symmetry along the x-central seam. Not in a major way, but I 'd still like to fix it. I’ve tried the standard Unify, ReSym, Smart ReSym. When I do that, the readout at the top of the UI says full symmetry found, but it lies like the lier that it is. The central seam is still off a bit.

  2. I’ve added some edge loops using retopology, but when I try reprojecting my details in the Subtool pallet, I’m getting the infamous exploding. I did save a morph target before projecting my detail. Still explodes.

  3. SubTool Master isn’t working properly. When I got back from TPost to SubT, it repostions most but not all of my SubTools. It’s also flipping the normals on some of my SubTools.

Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K.

I’ve fixed the symmetry issue by exporting an obj and bringing my model into 3ds max. There I deleted half my mesh, brought my central seam back to x-zero, and put a symmetry modifier on it. I did an STL check on the model just for good measure. Then I collapsed the stack and exported it back out of max, making sure Refine Verts, UVs, etc were DISABLED (that’s important).

The vertex order was different because of the stuff I did in max, so I couldn’t just swap out the base cages, even Steven. I had to bring it in as a separate ZTool then append that as a SubTool of my original mesh for projection. This process resolved the exploding mesh problem I was having when projecting details in the SubTool pallet. I guess it just needed a symmetrical mesh to project on to.

So that’s items 1 and 2 down. Hopefully next time I need to use SubTool Master it will play nice. I’d like to take this opportunity to give myself a big pat on the back for solving my own problems. Go me.
