strange noise behavior

Hi,

I have a problem with zb r3.5 noise. If I use it on my model some area remains untouched. You can see on the left side, however if I change the brush noise scale to 400-500, the noise will look as the right side of the screenshot.

Screenshot here

I would like to use the noise along the surface normals. Any advices are appreciated! Thank you

ps: I don’t know if it matters, but when I imported my obj model it was inside out, so in the display properties I had to flip normals, but in maya its normals are completely right. It is a simple plain with extruding in the middle. It has a lot of sections, and I did a reconsrtuct subdiv surface in zb in order to preserve hard edges.

I created a base mesh inside zbrush with zspheres, ported it over to maya to extrude some faces, then back to zbrush. After doing my sculpting I activated the surface noise feature and it was only affecting maybe 30 percent of my mesh and it was all distorted just like the image you posted. The scaling bug with Maya etc is the root of the problem. I rescaled it using the action line and it got worse. Very frustrating. After dicking around for several hours I had a “duh” moment…go to the deformation palette and hit unify. It will reset the scale in Zbrush and recenter your mesh. The noise function will work properly.

It seems working. Thank you very much
