strange import problems (3DS Max)

Hi all, I’m trying to import an obj at work and i’'m having strange results.
The mesh looks fine in max (as quads) turbosmooth works fine, i’ve reset xform, collapsed the stack etc…
But when I export as obj (i’ve tried both export plugins) and try and import into zbrush it gives me the result in the second screenshot.
Does any2 have any ideas?

Dont know whether this helps but in max, when I convert the mesh to edit mesh then the wireframe goes strange (ie a few lines from the wireframe vanishg) and then when I convert back to edit poly it completly screws up.

Once again any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does any1 have any ideas of how this happened and how to potentially solve it?
