Storm Bolter

This is more or less “finished” in my eyes. But I’d like a Critique, the high rez was detailed in Zbrush. I took the 25mm Bolter model and added some details and deviated slightly from the original design, but the shape is still there. Now please, critique away!

This is really nice! Excellent render, and a great model. I can’t see anything here to critique. I’m glad you made the gun look weathered and used, rather than all clean and shiny. It adds character and brings this model up a notch. I’d love to see more of your work!

I think the grip is rather short

Also, you have Red on a Spacewolf StormBolter!!!

As for the other, I like your additional design

can you post zbrush screens, kinda hard to tell what was done in zbrush. but great work on the texture dude.

Thanks for the kind words! This is currently the weapon for a Terminator I’m working on. As for the red, I asked a hardcore space wolves player if it was ok and he said it was…i guess he was wrong. Here’s the Terminator helmet so far just for S&%* and giggles.

I like this, you have your own design, and yet we can still tell that it’s Terminator

As for the red… Well, since it’s actually a paint your own figures hobby, anything is fine really.

But the most colors I’ve seen are Black, Grey and Yellow/Black Stripe

The storm bolter looks good. I like the muzzle flash you made, I’m accustomed to seeing the single hole style muzzle break, but that looks boring. I like yours, more dynamic. If its a for spacewolves it needs the wolf gubbins like teeth hanging off of it on tassles, perhaps a bit of leather wrapped around the handle something to make it even more personalized like the owner tweeked it up. talismans, if you will, that is something that always caught my eye with the spacewolves art, it set them apart. just my 2 cents.

good job.

ha, that’s a very good point and easily added, I didn’t think of that. As soon as I’ve got the rest of the armor done I’ll work on accessories.

Can you post a vid of the creation of the helmet? VERY good hard surfaces.

never posted a vid before, but i guess i could try. But a quick explaination may work; I made a low rez mesh of the head in maya, added some edge loops to retain the hard corners and then smoothed it to get an even distribution of polygons for detailing in Zbrush. I found it easier to mess with proportions and the shapes of the helmet in Maya than in Zbrush.

My high poly Terminator armor is all finished, time to Re-topo and create the low rez for animations.

Here’s my character, minus a power axe  and also missing textured armor, all that’s on there atm is a Nrm and Occlusion map (for the armor at least).

AH! The anatomical weirdness! THAT`S what you call a SPACE MARINE!!!

aaaalmost done

I really like the texture work on the gun, the only thing that bothers me is when I see symbols get reversed, the wolf in silver (i believe it’s a wolf) is facing opposite direction as well as the black and white skull. I realize you are using the same uv/texture space, but maybe consider isolating important symbols.
In the end it is going to be up to your art director
Other than that texture/model looks great!

“finished” Space Wolf Terminator, also, a WIP of an Unreal asset of a Space Marine Thunderhawk (interior and exterior greebling and textures done in Zbrush).

great work done here. always nice to see some Unreal engine stuff. Nice textures on the wolf. Thumbs up man!

After much, MUCH work. My thunder hawk is finished. ALL the textures and normal maps were done using Projection Master and sculpting. All the meshes were done low poly in Maya and this is it in UDK. without Zbrush, this project would have been monstrously more difficult.

Nice work! How is the UDK treating you? Havent had a chance to import anything into it yet.

UDK is amazing in comparison to the previous editor that came with UT3. It’s is significantly improved over the editor. The interface is better, and it just makes everything look nicer as well.
