Stop Motion Animation in ZBrush

Hello!

I want to share with you my personal project. It is called “#” and cover the problem of improper behavior in german nazi concentration camps and extermination centers, like Auschwitz. Subject is sad, but is real and we must talk about it. It will be a short documentary animation. For now I have a small preview - teaser. I decided to use a classic technique of animation - frame by frame. But my natural work environment is 3D, not puppets and sets. So I combined them and used ZBrush to animate! Workflow was very similar to clay animation, each frame I had to sculpt (one SubTool = one frame).

OK, I think that is all. Sorry for my English and I am curious about Your opinion.

Really interesting, I’ve been trying to animate myself.

Is that rendered in brush?

Any tips and workflow?

I used KeyShot to render.

Workflow was/is very simply. It is realy like a clay animation:

  1. Sculpt one frame.
  2. Duplicate as a different SubTool and sculpt again, and so on.

This teaser has 12 fps.

I like this method, because I have acces to all my frame any time I want, e.g. if I must fix something. I can use straight ahead and pose to pose animation - this is another benefit.

But most of all - this is great fun!
