Stitches

I was just playing with the alphas and came across a quick way to make scars and stitches:

Starting with a skin base, adjust the color to a little bit redder (or purple, or white). Select the simple brush, Alpha 11, and Freehand stroke. Set stroke spacing to .5 or to suit. Intensity of 25 works well. Draw a nice, puckered-up scar.

For stitches, switch to the 3D sphere, and set Draw size to 1 or so, depending on your final resolution. Select the Freehand stroke. Switch to Toy Plastic, increase the Specular curve a bit, and set the color to black. Drawing the stitch at this point will create a stitch that is half submerged in the skin, which may be desirable. You can raise the stitch up above the skin and make it stand out by going to TOOL:MODIFIERS and dragging the red cross down beneath the sphere. Now move the cursor over to the side and drag down so that the sphere is rotated back over the top of the red cross. Use the shift key as you drag to help constrain the rotation to 90 degree increments. Now press STORE. Now draw the stitches.

EDIT:

I made a quick ‘stitch-scar’ alpha by drawing an ‘x’ (shown in upper right corner of second pic) and MRGBGrabbing it with AutoCrop on and Shaded RGB off. Set ZAdd or ZSub, Draw size, and color to suit your purposes, set Stroke to Freehand and edit spacing to change the frequency of the stitches, and you are ready to lay down some serious scar tissue.

Good surgery
