[Still not working] "File Write Error" even though there is plenty of space?

Hi guys,

I’m trying to follow along with Tate Mossessians tutorial but I hit a roadblock at every single step. The latest one is when I am trying to create my multimesh insert brush. I can only do it so far until I get the following error on the screen. (I included the activity monitor so you can see ram usage and the drive it is currently on so you can see free space).

I’ve already reinstalled ZBrush, done a permissions repair, deleted the quicksave files incase that was an issue (and turned it off) and tried it on another computer which still gave the same error.

I’ve also checked all the meshes and deleted their subdivisions and checked mesh integrity. I can’t find much regarding this error on google.

Anyone have any suggestions I can try? It seems to happen randomly. Sometimes it happens with three subtools becoming multimeshes, other times with 20 subtools.

How big is the project file? I see you’re on Mac, seems like more glitches with them.

I only have it in a ZTool. The ZTools are a 442MB file. I’ll load the ZTool then try and make a multimesh insert brush with it and get the above error. I was able to work around by splitting the brush into two pieces but that kind of ruins the feature since I still have to switch between multiple multi-mesh insert brushes  I’m wondering if this is something I should file with Pixologic?

First, quit ZBrush. Then check that your Users/Shared/PixologicData folder have the full read/write permissions for the user “Everyone” (do a “Get info” on that folder). Also, when doing this step, click on the small gear and choose to apply to all the sub folders/ items.

This problems looks more a permission issue and the Disk utility can’t know which permissions are needed for ZBrush.

Hi Totyo,

Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately it didn’t fix the issue  ZBrush still gives the “File Write Error” even though there is a ton of space on the drive. I can duplicate this on my other Mac as well.

I also noticed when it crashes, the VMem folder under ZBrush Data gets to about 4.7GB in size and then ZBrush crashes.

Chrono1081: I suggest you opening a ticket at our support center. Something is wrong with your install since you have this issue on two computers.

Will do! Thank you for all of your assistance

hi chrono,

I do have the same problem on my brand-new macbook pro with lots of disk space… but it also happens with modo!

This could be a osx lion problem and I read some posts over at the apple site… but no answers there.

If you find something about this problem please post it here… Ill do the same!

cheers,
frank

I am having the same problem when ZRemeshing.

We have found one of the cause of this error message when using ZRemesher (but onlyZRemesher, sorry!): It is because you have a texture applied to your model that you want to retopologize.
You must remove the texture by going in Tool >> Texture Map, clicking on the texture preview icon the choosing “Texture Off”.
Then ZRemesher should work fine!
