Stich brush question

Does this brush work only on flat surfaces? That is, if one wanted to make a row of stitching on an article of clothing, would it work?

I’m having a bit of difficulty with this, as it seems to only want to show up on areas of the clothing article that are higher than others (see screenshot).

The brush settings used:

Draw size = 27
Focal shift = 0
Z intensity = 45

Stroke settings:
Mouse avg 4
Roll
Roll dist = 1
Lazy mouse
Relative
Lazy step 0.1
Lazy smooth = 4
Lazy radius = 30

Is this the normal function/behaviour or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Your settings should work fine. Check that there is no masking on your model by pressing Tool>Masking>Clear. And also check the Picker palette - Cont Z should be on.

Thanks, Marcus for your reply. I made sure that Cont Z was indeed selected and the result is still the same. I even adjusted some settings in Brush such as pressure, constant tilt and so on, but still it seems to only have effect where the mesh is relatively flat.

Basically I want to place some stitch marks where a jherkin would be sewn together, along the shoulder. But so far it’s only showing up at the far edge (from the centerline of the body) and the near edge (to the centerline) and none in between.

I’m perplexed.
