Stenciled Masks in Spotlight??

Hello,
I’m sure I’m missing something here and need some guidance. I’ve been bringing in images to be used in spotlight to model items like engraved text and patterns which works pretty well but why doesn’t it paint a mask using the same image as a stencil?

The benefits of painting the mask of say letters, numbers, etc. on an object using spotlight then exiting spotlight to zoom in close and modeling the emboss/deboss depth, change viewing angles, soften the mask edges and save the mask in place would be soooo powerful.

I can show some examples of the process that I’m going through. Maybe there’s a another/better way to do the same thing?

Thank you!

You might want to take a look in the masking menu in the tool pallet. There
you can mask by intensity, hue, and saturation from the polypaint/texture.
Give it a whirl

Thanks Matuka! I played around with it and certainly does the job.

I do still wish the feature would be present in Spotlight though. Much quicker and intuitive I feel. I’ll add it to the feature requests to see if it sticks.

Thanks again.
