StefanoBernardi Sketchbook - 2011

Hi guys, this year i’m starting my very first sketchbook.

I wanted to record a timelapse of my first speedsculpt, but i messed up things and recorded the full sculpt at normal time, so here’s just a turntable!

Modeled in about 1,5 hours.

As far as your recored sculpting session goes… you can change the FPS playback rates. If you recorded in a default 24fps, in most video editors, you can alter the play back speed by changeing the playback fps, 48=2x and so on, add music, or even clip out the boring sculpting portions. Windows 7 has a movie maker editor with it, that will work. I searched until I found an editor that would play on facebook. Don’t toss your Z-movie, just edit it in another app.

BTW Great sculpt. Do you have any concept sketches, or references you used?

Thanks for the advice SavageBliss, but what worried me was the encoding time: for 1.5 hours of sculpting was 1,5 hours of video encoding, definitely too much for me!

Regarding the sculpt, no concept or reference at all, just an idea i had in mind that was developed in detail as the sculpt progressed.

Not exactly a new job, but i never posted the finished 3d print of my bust of a chaos warrior…

The model is 13 cm tall (about 5,12 inches) and has been printed and painted by Ownage; i’m really satisfied with the quality of this piece; in the closeup shot of the helm you can see the tiny layers of the 3d print!

I hope to get the opportunity to print something new soon

Wow, the print turns out awesome!

good job man! and the print is really cool  pity for the speed sculpt

Great sculpt on the warrior and the print is simply amazing. The painting they did was based on your request?

hanks for the kind comments!

IsaacSG: yes, i sent some colored renders to the printer and he handpainted the model to resemble the texturing; here you can see the original thread of the 3D bust:

great 3dprint! must have been quite a moment holding it in your hands for the first time…

I recently applied for the position of character artist at Naughty Dog, as many other fellas as a “Eddie Raja” google images search can reveal…!

Here’s my personal version of the pirate from the first Uncharted game: i tried to stick with Uncharted 2 tech stats in terms of polycount, face detail, edge flow, hair geometry and textures size.

Photos were used as a base for hair only, everything else is hand painted.

Realtime screengrabs taken rom Maya viewport.

Constructive critics are much appreciated and highly encouraged

Some time ago i joined a challenge at www.cgfeedback.com to commemorate Clement Sauvé and his art; here you can find the concept i based my model on.

I managed to add some bits to my character and make some renders with Maya playing with a bit of compositing

i love the look of your renderings  the model looks cool as well
where did you do the compositing ?

That’s some sweet and detailed work! Natural wrinkles, very neat looking cracks!!!

Nice renders! I like those subtle bubbles you added, how did you do that effect?

Really Dig the renders !
impressive work man.
Top notch !
could you plz share your render settings ?

Great character and presentation!
i love that bokeh effect on this renders:+1: complimenti!

Thanks for the kind comments, guys!

Cral, macaco: i made all the compositing and color correction in After Effects: it has some really nice plugins that make it a lot more powerful than photoshop for color correction and for adding some nice light effects.
For the depth of field effect, i used Frischluft Out of Focus plugin, a lot better than the built in DOF effect; lens dirt, bubbles and light effects were added with Video Copilot Optical Flares; finally i played a bit with the color correction using Magic Bullet plugin: this filter has an advanced built-in compositor that permit to add various effects like vignetting, advanced color correction, noise, white and black diffusion, lens effects and so on…

Conniekat8: thanks, those cracks come out from an alpha took from the zbrush library on this site, cleaned up a bit with a morph target.

sanketpro3d: thanks, man, for render setting, i used a quite simple clay-like mia_material, no subsurface scattering and advanced stuff.
In the scene there is a strong area light casting shadows from the left and a directional rim light without shadows from the right.
Final gathering is turned on with secondary diffuse bounces set to 1; the default is 0, but it’s really important to get a soft diffused light.

LOad: thanks, it’s nice to hear a voice from the italian community!

Below is a still with the raw beauty pass, the depth and the final composition: as you can see the final image is quite different from the raw beauty render!

thanks, it’s nice to hear a voice from the italian community!

AWESOME work:+1:

This makes me happy!
No really tho, great work dude. Im trying to research into ways to also present my work, i find pictures from the 1920s to be a great source of inspiration. Or some pictures by the camera Pentax look amazing, something you can not replicate with a digital SLR.
Yeh rant…so, this is a grea source of inspiration =)

thanks man , m gonna try some on my models too soon…
keep up the gud work …

cheers !!
