Status update

I think if they were delaying launch again, they would have said by now. So my guess is they will launch to tie in with the 3D printing event. And just think how excited you will be when you look at this thread and it says “It’s Here!”. Just my view, no insider knowledge.

Thanks Ghostmeow. That is my impression of Houdini also. This is a hobby for me. If I was looking to find work in the field I might do as someone else mentioned and go for 3ds or Maya. I think in time Houdini is going to gain a lot of ground in the industry.

  • Also they said 4R7 was coming out in January, but they didn't say which year :)

Not necessarily, they were originally shooting to release r7 before winter 2014. Which for the US was Sunday December 21st, 2014. The last business day would have been Friday, December 19th. Ofer Alon didn’t announce that r7’s release was being pushed back to January until the day before, Thursday the 18th of December.

Name one major software that jumped straight into 64 bit without having a concurrent 32-bit version. The 64-bit version they’re giving us is beta. I’m more thankful they’re giving it to us now instead of waiting for Zbrush 5 like they’ve been talking about for so long. Also as a user that uses Zbrush on a daily basis for major projects that cost thousands I really appreciate that they’re not jumping into 64-bit without a 32-bit version to fall back on. This is more about releasing versions that Zbrush users can rely on than about old operating systems and hardware. You might be fine with just a 64-bit version as well as some others. But you’re not the only one that uses Zbrush there are thousands if not millions of us. I do agree that the 64-bit jump is late in the coming, but I’ve found the extra tools and abilities they’ve been adding to Zbrush 4 along the way has been much much more useful than 64-bit.

The 64-bit beta is one of the key things I’m looking forward to with R7 though. My last character (even with very low zremeshed pieces) when I hit ‘all high’ it blows up and get’s the dreaded ‘out of memory’ message. All pieces at their highest poly count average at 8000 some are 60000, a few pieces are 1.2 million.

I simply have too many pieces for 32-bit ZBrush (about 691 subtools).

Sometimes if I re-run ZBrush, try again, sometimes it seems to work. Overall the system is unstable and quick to memory crash though with too many subtools.

In final character stages, 32-bit is like working with the ceiling is about to drop on you if you click the wrong subtool… that is in 32-bit ZBrush.

For larger hi-poly characters at work, they also have to be spliced into separate pieces, 12 million topping out on each. Less limitations that way would be -so nice-.

Someones use any excuse to thrash an opposing voice that exist to counter their ideology. Seriously, his comments were out of line but yours were from outer space. Keep your ideologue and politics to yourself please.

Hey Guys

Please lighten up. I am sure R7 will be released as promised. The only reason there have been any delays is they are fixing and polishing it so that you have the best user experience possible. If you meditate on that absolute fact you will not be as anxious and willing to accept the pending release in it’s time. It will be release when it is ready…and I believe that will be soon so just be patience.

yes master

Wow…really Gutterfish? We have a sense of entitlement? Glad I don’t see the world through your eyes. I see a lot of people expressing compliments for a fine product…with their level excitement showing their level of appreciation.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

I can’t believe there is no official GoZ for Houdini… It should take either pixologic or sidefx like 3 hours to make it

I believe that’s up to SideFX.

GTA V pc was supposed to get released today, before being pushed to march a few weeks ago. We all know what this mean, they simply couldn’t compete with the release of 4R7 today…

Soulcatch - You mentioned that Houdini will gain ground within the industry. It already has mate. Do you mean will gain more? The accolade it has received already within the film and game industry is up there with the others and probably surpasses most.

Going by some of the comments on here, I might make a sneaky purchase. $99 for the indie - bargain!! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Feeling like a kid checking the Christmas tree for presents.

Mt Dew 12 pack… check
Big bag of pretzels… check
Sketchpad, pencil, pen and a few concept sketches… check

Already have a ton of ideas I want to try out and warned the wife I will be unavailable for at least 12 hours after I get the upgrade installed.

Is today launch day?

no

well… at least Dying light released. So i can forgot about zbrush for a while xD

Huge snowstorm in Northeast might delay it an extra week or so.
That would put us into Mid-End February.
Figure beginning of March to be absolutely safe

No worries guys. I`m on the vacation for the next week - and knowing my bad luck - the release will happen during theese days  so keep calm, cause The 4R7 is coming

Definitely waiting until the bitter end on this one -
