Vista is supposed to remember the setting. That doesn’t always hold true, though. To force Vista to remember, right-click on the ZBrush.exe and choose “Properties”. Go to the Compatiblity tab, where you’ll see a Run as Admin checkbox near the bottom. Check the box, click Apply and you should now be all set.
Thanks Aurick!
Works with double click now, although it still aksks me if it’s safe to run …
Unfortunately I also tried the “compatible with XP Sp2” check and now ZBrush wants to repeat activation?
Thanks in advance!
When I try to run ZBrush I get the following error message:
“ZBrush Executable has stopped working”

Still can’t get Zbruhs 3.5 to start I have Zbrush 3.1 installed in a separate directory.
Using WinXP Pro system with 100 gigs of disk free:
I run Zbrush 3.5 and it tries to start but never gets past hour glass after long wait.
Multiple tries and it never starts; just the hour glass.
DEP is off.
Tried running vcredist_x86_VS2008_sp1.exe to repair but no effect; same symptom as before; won’t start.
Ran Windows update to get latest; still no luck.
Suggestions???
Thanks,
James
I was wondering if there are any issues with running 3.5 on Windows 7 32-bit final?
I finally managed to get it installed and running using the troubleshooting steps outlined here and everything appeared to work fine. However, when I came to click the make polymesh3d button so I can start sculpting, nothing happens.
The button itself highlights and responds to a click, but when I try to sculpt a message appears telling me I need to click the make polymesh3d button.
I have done a Ctrl+N, tried a new document, and tried re-initializing ZBrush, as well as tried drawing a new version of the tool which appears in the tool palette after I originally clicked with make polymesh3d button.
I can sculpt on the premade tools that appear on startup but nothing else.
Have you run the C++ installer in the Troubleshoot Help folder? Have you tried disabling DEP for ZBrush? (see the text file in the Troubleshoot Help folder) Are you setting ZBrush to run as administrator?
Does your ZBrush 3.5R2 folder have a subfolder called vmem? Does your ZStartup folder have a subfolder called TempFiles? If not, create them.
Have you tried reinstalling ZBrush? And is the folder named ZBrush 3.5R2 or just ZBrush 3.5?
This is sort of a start up issue…I can’t find the download link for Zbrush 3.5r2.
I’ve got Zbrush 3.5r1 installed and activated. I’ve even got the cd. I went to the email where I downloaded that version, but it’s invalid. I’m confused. Where/who should I contact?
Thanks.
Yes, I ran the installer, disabled DEP for ZBrush and tried running it as regular user and as Administrator. No luck either way.

Who to contact: http://support.pixologic.com
Why you’re having this problem: You’re looking at the wrong email. The initial upgrade email can only be used once. In fact, the text immediately beneath the link you’re trying to click says this. AFTER you upgraded you got a second email from Cleverbridge. That’s the one that has the download link. However, that link was good for 14 days and you upgraded longer ago. So Support will need to refresh the download link. They can also resend the delivery email to you.
Aguy at work today told me that ZB3.5 will not run on a system where the cpu doesnt have or support something called sse2 since this old comp at home is only and old one listed here am i going to run into trouble

The Athlon processors do not support SSE2. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2
As a result, ZBrush 3.5 will not run on that computer.
Thankyou for the reply Aurick, seems odd to develop ZB in such a way it that it will no longer run on athlons, though i guess they are old now and newer systems have newer tech to keep up with the software, im only upset as i now have to get my wallet out;) cheers for the reply ,some of them new features are well worth splashing out for ,ZBrush just amazes me update after update. good work guys.
Hi,
I am running windows vista on a Mac. When I doubleclick the zbrush.exe icon it just hangs without doing anything, and also it doesn’t appear in the task manager.
any help would be much appreciated
Solved!
I wasn’t doing the rightclick thing and runing the program as administrator. I could be wrong but I think this piece of info is missing from the pdf that comes with zbrush.
cheers
Hi
I read your comment. The running as admin and still comes up with same error…
Thank you…
Who’s comment? There are a lot in this thread. Which specific error?
Hey aurick, I was wondering if you could check out my comments on http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=75221&page=18&pp=15 I don’t know if it’s a known bug or just me.
Make a new directory named “vmem” under your zbrush directory.
Also make a new directory named “tempfiles” under your ZStartup directory.
Thank you for the suggestion.
I was getting this virtual memory error on start of Zbrush 3.5r3
Creating that folder named vmem resolved the starting issue.
I wonder why this vmem even happens?
WHen I initially installed and ran Zbrush 3.5r3 there was no problem.
The only possible cause might be my changing this computers name from the right click of the desktop My Computer icon.
