ssd for scratch disk (answered)

hello,

I’ve a asus g75 (16gb ram) only for zbrush 4r4 sp2, i will upgrade the pc with a ssd disk (usb) to improve de velocity…is a good idea??

if yes, how could I set the new path for the scrachtch disk?

thank’s a lot

See page 12 in the ZBrush4_R4_whats_new.pdf in the Documentation folder.

ok I now thank’s, but the idea to use an external ssd to scratch can perform the use of zbrush or not? what do you think?

it’s a stupid answer ?!
but i’ve read in internet that a large number of software (cs, maya…) when use an ssd to scretch give a good emprovment of speed…
also perhaps it’s not really…?

:cry:small_orange_diamond:confused:

1.Search for the txt file, in my case is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Documents\ZBrushData
2.In the ZBrushData folder is txt file named ZBrushScratchDiskPath
3.Inside you have this setting C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Documents/ZBrushData/
(backup this file before any modification!)
4.Make a new folder named ZBrushData in the new location
5.Change to the desired HD name,in my case D:\ZBrushData

hope this help

If you have USB 3.0 yes. If you have USB 2.0 no. IMO, USB 2.0 would just be a bottleneck for SSD. USB 3.0 however should be good.

Any reason your getting external SSD. If your motherboard has SATA, internal would be a better way to go.

great…thank’s
i’ve usb 3 then this upgrade could be a good idea…

i’ll buy an external ssd today…thank’s for the help:D

No problem, your welcome.

FYI…

USB 3.0 SuperSpeed = 4.8 GB/sec. transfer speed
SATA III = 6 GB/sec. transfer speed
