Spotlight textureing

I use spotlight a lot for putting textures onto my models and love the various brushes, and effects zblush offers.

I would like to ask if there is a way to work (using spotlight) directly onto a texture itself using these brushes. A bit like using zbrush as a paint program. I can not achieve brush effects and randomness in any other paint program like I do with the spotlight/brush combination.

I would then reload the new textures on to my model.

I hope some of this makes sense, thanks for any help.

You can use ZBrush as a paint program  http://www.zbrushcentral.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=345671&d=1360968627
You can also use ZAppLink with your painting program

To answer your question blueisland, no, you can’t paint directly on the texture using Spotlight. I often wished that this was possible too. Maybe someday.

You can use ZAppLink to use photoshop brushes or Projection Master to use ZBrush brushes. You will need UV’s and a texture applied to the subtool first.

Spotlight can be used with Quick Sketch as well.

Thanks for the replies

The quick sketch thing is interesting as you can use it with spotlight. I’ve just tried it out looks good for what I would like to do.

Is there a way to control the canvas size?

I have a texture/image that is 4000 x 4000 and would like to paint on the same size canvas using spotlight.? I’m not sure how to do this.

Thanks for any advice…again

Yes, you can edit a texture in Spotlight:

  1. If the texture map is applied to your model, press Tool>Texture Map>Clone Txtr. This will copy the map to the Texture palette.
  2. In the Texture palette, make sure the texture is selected and press Texture>Add To Spotlight.
  3. Make any changes you want in Spotlight.
  4. Exit Spotlight and click on the small icon for texture in the Texture palette. This is necessary to update it.
  5. Click the Tool>Texture Map thumbnail and select the updated map from the popup. Note that the popup may not show that the texture has been updated but the second popup you get when you mouse over the icon should show the changes.

HTH,

Thanks HTM

Not sure how I can use brushes within spotlight itself
3. Make any changes you want in Spotlight.

I’m sort of trying to make an existing texture into a sketch using spotlight and a scatter brush. If that makes sense.
The final texture has to line up with my original texture though

Best

Dimensions for document size are in the Document palette. Sometimes you have to think alongside the box

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you wanted any changes you made to a texture image in Spotlight to be included in a texture map for a model.

No problem HTM.
If only we could could these brushes in a 2d way at full res. That would be good for texturing!

You can probably do what you want in ZBrush, but the effect you seem to want could be achieved with a filter in most paint programs real fast. Essentially, if you can see it in ZBrush on the canvas, you can export it in some format from ZBrush.
